Mesa Stiletto cleans...

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
Are freaking sexy!

I was Blues/Jazzin' the other night with a Strat, a tapped DiMarzio Fast Track 2, and a Boss RV 3 set for delay/verb. Damn! Not quite the uber-awesome of say a DSL401 as clean Marshall goes, but just damn....all kinds of clean goodness in here!

I don't even like clean...

Re: Mesa Stiletto cleans...

Mesas have always had good cleans. My favorite clean sound comes from a Mesa Quad preamp in my friend's studio... it's basically the clean sound from a MKII. A Quad is too cumbersome to put in the live rig or I'd buy one just for that clean sound.

Re: Mesa Stiletto cleans...

Indeed. I need to pull my Stiletto Ace out of storage, get it re-tubed and back into service. It's one of the best all-around amps I have ever owned. I always kept the clean channel on fat and goosed it with an overdrive for crunch and set channel two on fluid for the heaviest stuff I'd play.

Truly a great amp.

Re: Mesa Stiletto cleans...

And just another reason to love it. The clean vs fat clean with 100watt and recto of choice....

It's not a fender - but more than one very cool clean sound in there.

All that said I keep it on Crunch / Tite Gain; Loud & Louder!

Re: Mesa Stiletto cleans...

This thread inspired me to play my Carvin combo through my Carvin 4x12.
Still reeling my innards back in

Re: Mesa Stiletto cleans...

Ace needs a Deuce, no need to be a Triple threat.

Re: Mesa Stiletto cleans...

My Mesa has the best clean sound I've ever heard.

Re: Mesa Stiletto cleans...

Again - I'm not a conneseur of the clean.

This thing is warmer/rounder than anything Fender would do. Maybe that's why I like it. Still - my fave rock amp clean is the DSL 401

Re: Mesa Stiletto cleans...

Baceman, are you still rocking the Stiletto? They are really coming down in price now, especially the Ace...

Re: Mesa Stiletto cleans...

Of any mesa I'd consider trying/buying, it would be the stiletto because it's run with EL34s.

We you can run a lot of Rectos and others in that series with EL34s... and they make a difference but not that much. (I’ve got a Road King, and with the flip of a switch I can go from EL34 to 6L6. I’d say the Preamp and overall amplifier design play a bigger part than output tube type.

Re: Mesa Stiletto cleans...

I'm partial to EL34s just based on the countless EL34 Marshalls and 6L6 Fenders I have used. No Mesa experience.

Re: Mesa Stiletto cleans...

I'm super impressed of both the cleans and drive sounds. I'm not a Mesa guy but the Stiletto is my kind of amp and on opportunity I'd definitely snatch one.

Here is a recent pic from the Autograph/Lita Ford show - Steve Dallas & Mesa to his immediate right

Re: Mesa Stiletto cleans...

Are you using Crunch/Tite Gain and an OD to boost for solos? Roll back the volume for clean?

Re: Mesa Stiletto cleans...

I have a Stiletto Trident Stage I on top of an evh5150 2x12 G12h's. Nice combo for the Stiletto. Run it stereo with a Mark 5 90w on top of a Recto 4x12 with V30's. Dialed in properly and ears working correctly, sounds like heaven. So many flavors available. Really digging the combination of EL-34's Stiletto running with 6L6's MK5....Ohh yea!

I use the Tite Gain channel primarily. I use the built in boost for leads. What is this clean thing you speak of? I use an Acoustic for that. :lmao:

I'm a volume on 10 guy mostly. As a Les Paul style player, for a cleaner sound I put the rhythm vol on 1.1 or whatever er, and switch to "both pickups on."

However - using the crunch channel with an OD works very, very well also...not that I do that other than at home for fun. The volume boost on the amp was a big decision maker on this vs a Marshall Silver Jubilee 2555.

A Wampler Tumnus is my volume boost with either the 2555 or 2525H. I've always thought Stilettos sound awful, but to each his own. As long as you're happy with it, that's the important thing.
