Re: Mesa Stiletto or Marshall JVM 205C ?
Well it depends. If you want awesome Marshall tone then the JVM is going to do it for you. If you want awesome Marshall-ish tone, get the Stiletto. The cleans on the Stiletto blow the JVM away. The Stiletto is going to be a bit brighter and you're not going to be able to dial out the bright edge entirely without some kind of EQ in the effects loop. Marshalls are bright too but the JVM has a little more workability in the EQ. I find the EQ of the JVM to be better than the DSL.
The JVM does some solid sounding plexi and JCM 800 tones. Recorded, no one will be able to tell the difference. The Stiletto can't really do those kinds of tones but it has a great crunch all of it's own and it's not as nasally as the JVM.
I think you're facing a tough decision because they're both awesome. Since I already have a Marshall, I'd go get a Stiletto Ace just to have another British flavor. However, my personal requirement is to have a Marshall first. Every other amp is secondary pretty much. If you're not stuck on having specifically Marshall sound, like I said, the Stiletto is probably a better choice. Plus it's American quality.
