mesa v-twin adaptor question

I know there are some guys around here who use this pedal (Zerb is the first one that comes to mind)...

I just snagged one in very very good conditions for 200$ canadian, which I believe is quite a good deal. The only little problem is that the power adaptor wasn't included.

Anyone knows what's the best place to buy one? How much do they run for usually?

Thanks for the help...

*edit*: are the power supplies brand-specific for this thing or can I buy a 12v ac adaptor that fits and use it?

Re: mesa v-twin adaptor question

I forget what it runs on, but I used an aftermarket one with mine, that had a LONG cable on it. I think the one I had was 1000ma or whatever.

Re: mesa v-twin adaptor question

Thanks Ollin!

I couldn't really find any info other than the 12v about the pedal, even in the owner's manual and such...

By the way: did I get a good deal? These things go quite high on ebay but I don't know what they go for locally...

You got an awesome deal. The power adapter for the Mesa V-twin is a 12v 1000ma AC adapter. You can buy something like that from radioshack or local electronics stores, I think. MAKE SURE IT IS AN AC ADAPTER, NOT DC. They aren't too hard to find. The amperage of the adapter can be over 1000ma, but the voltage has to be 12v. Good luck!

Re: mesa v-twin adaptor question

Well, thanks guys...

I bought the adaptor with the right voltage and amper-rating... the damn thing doesn't work!!!!!! aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggg.....

It lights up alright, led-switching and everything is fine, except that I can't get a sound out of it, save for a loud rumbling every once in a while when I hit a chord real hard. It is now at my local mesa dealer to get checked...

I called the guy who sold it to me and he says that everyting was fine last time he played it..blah blah... (he told me that everything was fine with it before selling it to me [we weren't in a position for me to try it..the deal looked so good]) I'll see what the tech tells me during the upcoming week.... If it's busted I'll call him back but it's on a cell phone, I bet I'll have a hard time locating him to get my money back...

fleeced again... :( (maybe not but looks like it) I know you guys are gonna say that it's my fault for buying something without trying it first (and you're right) but I still wish I could've believed the lady (guy's gf) when she said it was in perfect working condition....bummer.

Re: mesa v-twin adaptor question

I am sure it works fine and if not, it can be repaired.

I bought one, then sold it to get a POD XT. I liked them just fine - very good tone, and you got a very good deal. I was looking at buying one used at GC yesterday for 189 without adapter.

I can tell you that I found a 12AT7 in the V1 position reduced the gain ever so much, that it was clearer, if you want a more classic to hard rock sound.

Those things are built like a tank!

Thanks Olin,

I sure wish it's a small detail or something... I'll have to wait and hope that it doesn't cost too much so that I still am within the range of a good deal in total.

Thanks for all the info again,

Phil

Re: mesa v-twin adaptor question

The V-twin pedal has a little tiny transformer inside that steps the 12 VAC up to power the tubes. Sometimes a shock will cause one of the transformer leads to break. The pedal lights up, & works the way you describe. I called Mesa when it happened to mine & they talked me through the repair.

Re: mesa v-twin adaptor question

That's great man!

Can you elaborate a little (or a lot ;)) on what it involved?

Re: mesa v-twin adaptor question

Well, the tech called back today and it seems like everything is up and running...

I'm off another 40$ but that's no big deal since in total I'm still under $260 for the whole thing...

Thanks to all of you who helped... I can't wait to try it tonight!
