Re: mesa v-twin pedal.

i got the pedal last night for $250 and messed around with it.

so far, its definetly built like a tank and adds channels and stuff to my amp. it gets that 'mesa' sound real good, which i guess is cool. im not really fond of the solo channel though. it seems too muddy bassy but a little tweaking will fix that. the blues channel has more of my kind of tone, but yeah, its impossible to get rid of the mesa signature "THUD" low-end. ill mess around with it more. i like using it a booster/ overdrive. but ill probably end up using it through my line 6 as a second amp. and because my super chorus has 2 output jacks i can play through the mesa/ line6 and my marshall to get a bigger, mixed sound.

Re: mesa v-twin pedal.

If you want to use it for an OD, you'll be very disappointed. Sounds nothign like a recto... much more markish.

Re: mesa v-twin pedal.

one thing I like to do is replace the tubes in it. It is like a THD in a way, in that you can replace the tubes and see a big difference in the sounds. I don't like to use a 12ax7 on the red or solo side. I much rather like the tone of a 12at7, or a 12 au7 on the red, or lead side. (that is the right tube.) I find that it is a little looser grained distortion, much more bluesy.

i used to run a 12au7 and 12ay7 in my vtwin to get the most un-mesa like tone

What if we want to run it through a Recto's poweramp to sound like a Mark? :fingersx:

Re: mesa v-twin pedal.

It'll do a very good Mk impression, at least it did with my 50:50 power section.

Re: mesa v-twin pedal.

Wasn't all too crazy about mine when I had it. I was runnin it into my old marshall JCM800 2203. Was a little too bass-heavy for my tastes.

whats the difference between 12au7's, 12ax7's, and 12ay7's?
Lower gain.....

I use JJs in my Bottle Rocket & the OD is way smoother than the stock Mesa tubes.

Also, this might sound stupid, but don't dime the knobs. If it's anything like the Bottle Rocket, a turn of the knobs goes a long way so once you get the tweaked sound you're looking for, take note of the position!!! :laugh2:

My kids like to turn all the knobs on my amps....sometimes, it's interesting when you don't notice & plug in expecting one thing & get another.

Most times, it's not :D

Good luck & enjoy that pedal....they look very cool.
