Mesa Vs Orange

Help me make up my mind

I have a Mesa Single Rec solo head, its 50 watt, i love it to bits, its the best piece of equipment i own and probably will ever own, its great for my playing style and the fact of owning a Mesa in general just puts me in a good mood lol

This is exactly what mine looks like

But recently, and i have no idea why, i've been dying to get my hands on one of these, It's an Orange TH30H

Here's a youtube vid about the Orange http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Akwf5sLk-o

They're fairly new on the market and although i haven't played one in person it just sounds like an incredible amp. I've watched a few vids on youtube about it and i love the tone, theres something about Orange tone that just sticks out to me.

So i guess what im asking is, is it worthwhile selling my Mesa to get one of these? or am i insane? I reckon i could sell my Mesa for a good bit more than what the Orange costs, so I have a fair bit of cash in my pocket too.

Someone please either talk me outta it or convince me to go a head with it

Re: Mesa Vs Orange

I sold my Recto to buy an Orange.

A few years later I traded an Orange for another Recto.

Orange amps are cool, but I'm much happier with the Recto.

The Oranges I had were kind of flat and bland... particularly the distortion. The one exception is the AD30... that amp is awesome and full of character.

Experiences may vary.

Re: Mesa Vs Orange

What kinda music you playing?

If it were me id say keep the Mesa. Its a bit more versitile than the Orange from my experience. Not knockin the orange at all, its a killer amp. Plus, if you were trying to sell the Mesa the resale on em out here(Not sure how much in your neck of the woods) go from $500-800 used. The TH30 is $1100 I believe.

Re: Mesa Vs Orange

Apparently, according to Orange anyways, this is there highest gain amp they have out, that was something that drew me in...

I play heavy/fast punk i guess you could say... Happy Hardcore :P

Yeah, i figured that they'd be cheaper used in the States but over here, there's no suppliers of Mesa what so ever, so its either find one used or you gotta look over seas, so we can charge more :P also i think we just pay more for stuff in general anyways, and ive found a good few of the oranges on ebay for €630 :D Which i pretty good

I'm afriad though that if i get rid of the Mesa that i will want it back a few days after.... yet i cant take my eyes off that Orange haha

In a perfect world i'd have both...

Re: Mesa Vs Orange

I'd start saving money so you could potentially own both. Go play a few Oranges in the mean time.

Re: Mesa Vs Orange

i actually have my mates AD30 at my house at the moment and tbh, i like it but i wouldnt buy one, the sound is far too classic, dont get me wrong its an amazing amp but for my style it just isnt what i need,

if i had a job id save up no problem :P i'll probly be waiting till christmas tbh haha

Re: Mesa Vs Orange

I almost always hate the tones this dude gets regardless of what he's playing through, but even HE can't make it sound bad

Re: Mesa Vs Orange

I have the TH30 and love it to bits, but I've also played the Mesa several times. The Mesa is more versatile due to having more controls and it does a nice range of tones with ease. It also has a very stiff feel to it that I don't find with the Orange. Different strokes for different folks (and price tags too). My best advice - keep the Mesa and save your cash for the Orange. That would be an awesome 1-2 punch.

Re: Mesa Vs Orange

I never owned a recto but I played through a few.
I also bought a TH30 a few months ago and LOVE it.

Personnaly, I'd have no use for a recto at this moment. The Orange gives me everything I need and more, the tone in my head being nowhere near what rectos usually (and by that I mean "generically" since I know they are quite more versatile than the average recto owner makes of them with the gain and v-shaped EQ) sound like.

However, seeing how you seem to love yours a lot, here's my recommendation:

Save your money a little bit and wait, maybe a year or less... they'll eventually pop-up on the used market once folks realize that, while they are an amazing value, they aren't a rectofendercleanorangebogner and they will be a STEAL considering what they are going for new (I bought mine in Canada for less than 1000$ with taxes, I can't imagine how much they'll go for when slightly used, unless they get discontinued for whatever reason).

You'll be able to keep your recto and get a killer Orange for very little dough.

You already own more or less your dream amp. While I understand the urge to try new amps (and this TH30 is killer!...sorry, not helping...;)), just be patient a little bit and you'll end-up with a great combination of amps. It's not like the price of the TH30 is anywhere near what Rectoverbs or Thunderverbs go for so...

Re: Mesa Vs Orange

Eh I'd look at replacing it with the 50 watt thunderverb, that's a more comparable amp IMO

I fully agree.
From the clips i heard, i am deff not a TH30 fan, but man, i want a Thunderverb 50 so badly.

If you decide to get rid of the Recto, i would deff suggest you look at the TV50, rather than the TH30. (imho)

I am gonna be 200% politically correct here, and just say, "i do not like any Guitar World demos".
And leave it at that.

Imho, here are the best Thunderverb 50 demo currently on the net (atleast what i know of)

Like Rob clearly states in the demo, unfortunatly, you can not feel (nor hear) the massive amounts of low end this amp is able to produce.
Still, a very good review on a musical product.

Re: Mesa Vs Orange

Youve also got to consider how much of that is the Orange 4x12. Those are one of the best cabinets in the world.

BTW, Ive heard that these Oranges can cop a good Hiwatt tone?

Re: Mesa Vs Orange

I've been thinking about this for ages, and I'm gonna start looking into the Thunderverb 50 more, and if I'm happy with it I'll be swapping I think

So... Anyone interested in a single rec? :P
