Re: Mesa Vs Orange
No way! Keep the Mesa Boogie! The single rectifier is unquestionably one of the greatest amps ever made. There aint nothng like a cranked single rectifier. The Thunder 30 is a real nice amp and I've had the pleasure of playing one for several hours. Because of the EL84 power section, you're going to get some awesome tone from home all the way to a fairly sizeable gig. The cleans are really good and so is the overdrive of which it has plenty, however, it's not "great" like the single rectifier.
I classify it as GAS worthy or a really good amp, but it's not what I consider "great." I would take a single rect over one any day of the week. The single rect has such great rhythm tone, juicy lead tone, and some of the wickedest harmonics I've ever heard. Any notion you have about getting rid of it should pass like a mild upset stomach... you fart and it goes away.
I've been gassing for a single rect badly. At the moment, I can't wait to get one so I can plug in my Les Paul and get that creamy semi clean tone. Ever since I saw a local blues player playing through a rect-o-verb combo, I can't get that blues tone out of my head.
