IMO, any guitar amp sounds poor with a drastic mid scoop, not just Mesas.

Oh, no question about it...scooped mids sounds horrendous

And I think that a combo of your guesses would be the case.
Either way, whenever I play a mesa I end up turning the V on the Eq upside down!

It was a nicely done video, but the sound quality was absolutely horrible, I can't see anyone liking that amp based on the sound of that demo. In the other NAMM video someone else posted earlier, I thought it sounded quite nice.
