Messier Pickups

Hey guys, I've got duncans in two of my guitars and since I'm ressurecting my strat I'm looking for a different kind of tone. Actually I'm looking for a looser tone than I've gotten from Seymours creations. My ear has this idea of a full bodied sound that's nice and round (like a seth) with more ouptut..like 14k and over...somewhere between a custom and out of control.

For an idea of what I mean, I don't think most of everyone here will be too familiar with the tone but mastodon's Leviathan and Blood Mountain albums. It's a tall order from a strat sicne they record on vintage les pauls, flying v's, and other obscure solid mahogany tune-o-matic guitars.

This guitar currently has a x-h-h routing so I need suggestions for bridge and mid buckers. I appreciate any suggestions anyone can hit me with, I know I'm not going to get this in spades but I can certainly come close.

Thanks for readin, Bryan

Hot,warm, thick, full tone while still being loose = Dimarzio Tonezone or Airzone if you want less output. Thos two could do what you want when placed in the bridge.

Re: Messier Pickups

Tone zone has been one I'm considering, also the breed comes to mind, can anyone speak for that pu?

Re: Messier Pickups

imo the breed is fat sounding but still a pretty tight pu, so it might not fit your ideas.

Re: Messier Pickups

After looking a little more carefully at the dimarzio line I'm thinking that's where I'll stay for this guitar. I'm thinking something along the lines of the Air Zone for the bridge and a Virtual PAF hot in the mid for something even smoother. Also I've already got a Virtual vintage solo strat pickup that'll be going in the neck slot so I figure I may as well go all the way into the dimarzio flava.

Re: Messier Pickups

I had the Air Zone in the bridge of my DXMG for a while and didn't really like it. It has a lot of classic rock feel and tone to it. Very singing, fat and not very tight. Didn't work out for me(replace it with an evolution, which is basically the total opposite), but it could work out great for what you want. If you go with an air zone, pair it with an Air Norton, this pup is godly. Fat tone, but articulate, good punch and great lead sound. AZ/AN could be great imo.
