Re: Metal covers for P-90s

Remember I don't know what your project is. Maybe you could enlighten me? ;)

Re: Metal covers for P-90s

Finnally got it out of you. Cool.

Now... just what are you going to burn in it? LOL

I think I just found my fetish in guitardom... burned metal

Re: Metal covers for P-90s

Davey and LSP lets get real!

After my last post I recalled LSP musing about burnt fret wire, not possible on the normal stuff as it is nickel loaded brass, but the new stainless steel wire WELL as it has a chrome content the possibilties are endless...

The blue and yellow colours are due to minor oxides forming due to heat in the cobalt and nickel (and other metals) in the plating. The chrome is, possibly, the canvas just as the Polish proverb says "Fish must swim three times; water, wine and butter."FOOD!

Sorry to be Uber Geek but part of my day job 'sob' is to weld and I can just about tell what is what makes up the metal I've welded by the colour of the fantail. Heat trace.

LSP your right about the tuners, my old Schaller Mini's might take the heat but the headstock WILL at the least smoulder!

Re: Metal covers for P-90s

So your saying that not all fretwire will take it but some of the recent stuff will? That makes sense, thanks.

Don't know if your joking about the tuner/headstock but I'll say this as it's you never know if someone might actually attempt this with the guitar assembled.

True the headstock will get a bit hot but aren't some tuners designed so you can replace the knobs? That way you can remove them, burn them and after cooling re-instal them.

Thanks for the insight, didn't realize that different metals might not be be suitable for this.

Re: Metal covers for P-90s

LSP the keys on my Schaller Minis will come off but they are older than you so they may not go back on after the heat!

The local guitar store is really going to be stressed with my next order,I'm just waiting to se if they can do www.jimdysonguitar.com.au p90's a Ash body Firebird with a 13 degree 25.5" Pre L series Rosewood neck.

That'll stuff them.

Old Dog but no new tricks.

p.s. Robert Johnson rules! He should just play my Donmo Resonator No.97.
I can't do it justice...

I have a 1967 Gibson ES330 with dog eared p90s with the covers. I've played it with them off and I can't tell the difference but I bet there is a bunch of people who think they can. If you think they look cool, go with it!
