Metal Guys: DDn in bridge is bliss!

Re: Metal Guys: DDn in bridge is bliss!

How's it handle pinch and natural harmonics in your opinion? Compared to something like a JB. Thinking about getting one with slightly mismatched coils from the custom shop, mybe a little hotter too.

Re: Metal Guys: DDn in bridge is bliss!

it handles pinches very well, def screams when its done.
id like to have the output a lil more, like 13.7k and maybe one more notch on the bass.
the rest is golden.
and what edgescrusher said "Why not hybrid a DDN with a DDB"
sounds right imo.

Re: Metal Guys: DDn in bridge is bliss!

Awesome clip as usual Surface54!! If I may hijack and add another note that I discovered recently... I got a BC Rich gunslinger with a DD bridge and a JB neck. The JB in the neck is killer! I always thought it would be bridge only but its bad a with a DD in the bridge..

Re: Metal Guys: DDn in bridge is bliss!

around 12k... 2k isn't that much of a big deal to me. besides! IMHO, DC reading is totally irrelevant and it only makes sense if you're a pickup noob and neither of us is that. so: why do you care so much about dc reading of 12k? because of the idea?

Blame SD for making it seem like output is measured by resistance. (Yes, all of the cheaper import pickup makers/sellers use the same argument.)

But yes, they could use some more medium-hot pickups.

BTW, I wouldn't say that the Screamin Demon is medium hot. *If* the 2k actually makes a difference, it's *huge* compared to any 12k pickup I've tried/made.

Re: Metal Guys: DDn in bridge is bliss!

Did you mount it with the logo down, so the slugs were on the bridge side? (even if that even makes a difference) Ive always wondered what a low-ish output pickup would do with that fat ceramic. Looking for a pickup for a 30" scale guitar. Debating on high or low output pickups, this sounds interesting.
I supposed it would be clearer, but I would think it would be almost too bright, considering the ceramic mag and that it has fewer turns than the bridge version. Unless I've been misunderstanding what I liked about the DD bridge, I thought it was the over-wound fatness that was crisped up with that huge mag that made it sound so good to my ears. I can't tell by the YouTube vid, but how does it sound in a live or rehearsal setting? I.e. amps cranked pretty good, etc.? It sounds phenomenal from that recording you did.
