My guess is (Tho I have never used them) is that they proabably give you an active p-up sound without the active p-up. Frankly I have heard active pickups played and personally think they are an abomination to all guitardom. So, I would say if you dont like an Active p-up sound don't use em.

I use EMG active pickups.

I've also played with metal coins.

I don't find using coins on my passive pickup sounds like EMGs at all.

I do find it sounds like a metal coin is hitting my strings though.

Interesting as EVH is claiming metal picks are what caused his tongue cancer, he used them from 96 or so til the diagnosos and said he always kept one in his mouth when he tapped. Who knows, but this thread was all over the VH forums. Timely topic.

Doesn't EVH smoke like it's going out of style?

I wonder if his toung cancer has nothing to do with the cancer sticks he was sticking in his mouth?

Ummmm... playing a guitar with a metal pick sounds NOTHING like it would if you loaded it with an EMG.

I've tried those stone picks before and they sound and feel awesome.. altough the "slippriness" of the polished tip needs some getting used to.

yep, and still does. But he claims ciggs typically don't cause tongue cancer, maybe the cancer was right where he had the pick on his mouth... Who know's he is a bit odd these days..
