Metal Rig (Help me build!)

I currently own an '87 Randall RG 80 ES. But i am looking for a bit more versatility.

Ok, I am looking for a tone that extends from:
Ozzy "No More Tears"--->A.I.C. "Facelift"--->BlackLabelSociety--->Metallica "Master"-"Black Album"
**(Something Bogner Fishy..?)

Option 1: Preamp-->TS100(or other somewhat inexpensive poweramp)-->Randall Jaguar Cabs
(I've been thinking about Peavey Rockmaster, Rocktron Voodu, ADA MP-1(/2)...)

Option 2: OD-->EQ-->Legacy (Or X100B)-->Randal Jaguar Cabs

Open to ALL advice/criticisms.

Re: Metal Rig (Help me build!)

If you go with a preamp their is the Marshall JMP-1. It goes for about 500 on ebay. There is also randal with their preamp modules.

I've tried the Peavey rocktron before and it was good but I don't think it would have the diversity you are wanting.

Re: Metal Rig (Help me build!)

Boss GT8 / Line 6 Floorboard + Crate Powerblock + cabs

Re: Metal Rig (Help me build!)

Yeah, I would go with a floor based preamp into a powerblock into a 4x12. I used to run a boss into a big clean (but cheap) poweramp into a 4x12 and it was massive, perfect for metal of all kinds.

Re: Metal Rig (Help me build!)

I remember seeing those powerblocks and wondering if they were any good, how would they sound with a boss GT 6 through a cab? Comparable to a real amp at all?

Re: Metal Rig (Help me build!)

I meant to say POD Live - but whatever floats your boat. An RP50 would roar through that.

Other options: Carvin Quad X preamp, super versatile and you can change out the tubes... $350-$550 on eBay(get the pedalboard).
Also, look for the earlier version of that power amp, the T100... supposedly, it has "better" specs.
Digitech RP1000... Digitech's newest multi-fx pedalboard. I've got a GNX3 that kicks much a** and it's 8 years old now.

Option 2: OD-->EQ-->Legacy (Or X100B)-->Randal Jaguar Cabs

Since you've thought of Carvin, look at the V3 and the new Legacy II.
Both are 3 channel amps and I can attest that the V3 can create monster metal tones.
(to get the most out of the V3, you'll need a matched set of tubes biased hotter than what Carvin ships.)

Thank guys. Preciate the responses.
Mojo, who's that in your pic?

That would be the amazing Reeves Gabrels, post-Tin Machine with his factory custom Parker Fly... IIRC, the body isn't as lightweight or heavily contoured as a normal Fly, at his request it kept more wood than normal.
