METAL sounds needed in old Ibanez

Re: METAL sounds needed in old Ibanez

are pickups even that big of a deal running a little modeling amp and playing thrash?

Yes.

Relatedly, I heard Jeff Bober (Buddha, East Amps) say that when you're using a high gain amp like a Dual Recto or VH-4, the guitar was basically reduced to a trigger, and things like pickups and wood made no difference.

I think if he can't hear the difference between a Strat and a Les Paul through a Rectifier, he really should have his hearing checked.

There are still folks out there saying Led Zeppelin 1 was recorded with a Les Paul.
