Metal zone = LW?

Hey SD forum dudes!

I hear the metal zone has a big fat mid spike and tons of output and distortion. Isn't that basically the live wire metal pickup by SD? Just wondering if anyone has experience with both.

Well....the metal zone is a distortion pedal, where as the livewire heavy metal is an active guitar pickup...comparing the two is kinda like apples and oranges.

I had a metal zone, hated it. Too much sizzling steak distortion for me.

It can be dialed in to sound all right...but its a pretty sterile sound, I'd much rather just krank my KRANK ;)

Never tried the livewire heavy metal though...

Re: Metal zone = LW?

Boss distortion pedals aren't liquidy enough, they're just pure distortion, no liquid here, not even water and it's FREE!!

Cool thanks for the replies. I know they aren't the same, but they seem to have similar characteristics and are targeted to the same audience. Mids, Distortion, Metal

well as you said the boss´s distortions dont have enough liquidity in them, but i guess that the Mega distortion seem to me that its a new kind of pedal... what do you think of it? and the live wire pup seem to me that they would work fine with a tube amp.

I think the MD-2 is great, it gives me that bone-crushing tone I want sometimes. It's really good at that, and not much else. I mean...you can turn off the "gain boost" knob and it's essentially a DS-1 with a better tone knob and a bass control but I haven't directly compared the two.

I used to use my Metal Zone all the time. A friend brought over a Mega Distortion and I thought it sounded like garbage... I don't know what it was, it was just muddy, way too bass heavy, buzzy... just ew...

Re: Metal zone = LW?

If you crank up the bass knob then all you can hear is the bass, that's probably why it sounded so bad. Otherwise it's just a souped-up ds1 for the most part.

Re: Metal zone = LW?

used to own a metal zone in the early 90s. It was my first distortion pedal, but after getting an ART xtreme effects, its sounded too over-ly metal for me. So I sold it off and intend to invest in a MXR double shot
