hey guys im trying to get that type of distortion in the metallica load, black album, which pedal is gonna give me that type of distortion i dont like that ugly distortion like slipknot , i want it to sound heavy but clear , high gain , im talkin about enter sand man distortion , i play a schecter c1 and a epi les paul standard witha dimarzio distortion bridge and a seymour duncan 59 neck , an original cry baby and for distortion a zoom 505 II , and a marshall amp , i know i dont have mesa boogie or a mode four but i should get close , one time i asked that wich pedal would give me a godsmack type distortion and some dude said the one that changes chanel to the mesa boggie , thats not truth it like if i listen to a metallica cd in a high tech sound system is gonna sound bad ass but if play an old metallica tape with an old cassete player its gonna sound bad but thats just the quality sound, still gonna be metallica and is gonna be the same distortion! so please help me which pedal should i go with?

Re: metallica distortion

ok, i got this one completely 100% down...

for, the black album tone. the closest possible way is this...

a guitar loaded with an EMG 81 in the bridge position, and something in enck(for hetfields clean, a 60, for hammett, an 81 in neck)
thats for the guitar, preferably a mahogany bodied guitar.

and for amp, a mesa boogie mark 4

set the eq like this..

gain: 7-8
master volume: 5
bass: 3
mids: 5
treble: 7
presence: 8

thats for the normal eq

with teh other eq on there, thats where you will scoop the mids. if you scoop the mids on the regular eq, you will get a fart for a guitar sound and not a clear tone.

i've played the mark 4 many, many times and this is what has become the perfect metallica tone IMO.

but remember, scoop the mids after the normal eq. but also understand that they have layers upon layers of guitar tracks to get that "wall of sound" that you hear

:)

Re: metallica distortion

i just asked for a pedal dude not for $10.000 dollards of equipment !!!!!!
i know what u all gonna say "u cant get that sound with just a pedal " ok i know that but something close just a distortion pedal

Re: metallica distortion

You can't get that sound with a pedal alone

I had a C-1 Plus with an EMG-81 bridge and nailed that tone with my tube amp

None of those'll work.

The Dime distortion sounds like bad Pantera, not Metallica....

The MXR 10 Band will help with the scoop, but if he doesn't have the correct sound to scoop in the first place......

The MXR Wylde OD is an overdrive. It doesn't do huge, wall of gain stuff.

The closest I've heard in a pedal is a Tech21 SansAmp GT-2. It's not perfect, but it's the best I've heard so far.....

Re: metallica distortion

MT-2, and EQ, and an OD pedal.

Tweak. Get your own sound.

Re: metallica distortion

FU<K GUYS! HAVENT YOU READ THE FU<KING POST!

He doesnt want to get a freaking Mark IV.
He doesnt want to get his 'own tone' or any **** like that.

He wants ****in metalica tone.
Stop posting bull****.

rombola I'm sorry dude, I dont know of any pedal that would help you achieve this.
I would try a Mesa V-twin, as it is all tube and based on the recto.

A Metal Zone and an EQ might work.
That's the way I went back in my SS days! :laugh2:

Actually, it worked quite well and had me satisfied.

If you are in search for a good heavy tone like Metallica's Black Album days. Drop the little bit of dough for a Metal Zone, Graphic EQ, and if you want (which I used), an overdrive to to have a little more control over your sound.

Good luck, Rombola! :headbang:

Re: metallica distortion

I'm not sure that you can get that classic Metallica sound using any pedals/amps/pickups other than what they use. Mesa/EMG's are the key to their tone. If you listen closely to the guitar tracks, it isn't very distorted at all. This is especially true on the Load CD. Slightly overdriven crunch with scooped mids. Very little delay/reverb- probably added in the mix down.

Re: metallica distortion

I think u should really look at investing in a PodXT LIVE thing

thats got all the amps and distortions u need
black album and load are quite different tones
iim sure with the podxtLIVE ull be able to find some decent amp models

ext=.data

if not the floorboard version, just get urself a pod
GO DIGITAL MAN!!!! :D
