I have a Kramer Les Paul and I'm thinking about replacing the pups with EMG-81's. And I have a BOSS METAL ZONE distortion pedal and a ZOOM 505II. If I replace the pups with the EMG's, can I get that signature Metallica sound off of their "Black Album" by using these 2 pedals? I play out of a Crate GT212.

Re: Metallica

You could get as close as a Metal Zone into a Crate can get to Mesa Dual Rectifiers, Marshall whatevers, and whatever the hell else they layered on there, which is closer than you'd think, and probably close enough to make you happy.

You'd actually be better off going 81/60 (Het's setup) as about 95% of the guitar (everything but most of the solos) you are hearing on that album is him.

Re: Metallica

they use thousands of dollars worth of mesa stacks and effect loops, two pedals and some pickups through a solid state arent going to cut it. you can make it sound good but not metallica signature.

Re: Metallica

I'd say no. But, I vote like this:

I think you ought to get some duncans, say JB and Jazz and just use the Metal Zone to get close to their sound. When you don't want to do metal, the Duncans will be far more flexible than the EMGs.

BTW, I'm a huge Metallica fan, have guitars with EMGs, and Duncans.

And St. Anger still sounds like sh*t. :D

BTW, what do effect loops have to do with the mighty Met's tone?
