Mexican Bass

Hey, I'm new to the group...i have a delemma. I own a '94 Mexican Fender P-bass Special. It has both J and P pickups. I currently have my eye on those Bassline ProActives APJ-1...the delemma...Apparently the Mexicans used different sizing on their jazz bass pickups...My Jazz pickup, which is placed at the bridge, is actually a Neck-sized pickup (short). The Jazz pickup in the APJ-1 set is the long pickup (bridge). I'm not too keen on the idea of routing out my bass to fit the longer Jazz pickup...Does anyone know if i can purchase the set with the SHORT jazz pickup...or if i could purchase the short pickup seperately somewhere????

welcome to the forum!!

i would call duncan and see if they can make you a set with the short neck pup. i expect that it shouldnt be much of a problem. probably a shop floor custom

I have replaced pickups in the standard mexican jazz (Not the P+J) and found that very little if any routing is required to fit the normal size bridge pickup. It varies a bit from bass to bass but at least on the standard jazz I have never had to do more than a little dremel work.
