MF has the Tubulator back down to $15.

Re: MF has the Tubulator back down to $15.

Hey Seraphim, what do you set your gain to when you use the Tubulator to "rip nuts off" lol. And which channel (if your amp has 2 OD channels available that is)? For right now, I'm using my EQ pedal as a clean boost in front of the amp and it gives my Ultra channel tons more clarity, crunch, and lots MORE gain on tap

Re: MF has the Tubulator back down to $15.

Well, I bought one when it was $15, but it never reached me.At $10, I really cant justify not pulling the trigger again:fingersx:
Mighty Tubulator, here I come!

Re: MF has the Tubulator back down to $15.

i BOUGHT MINE FOR 12 BUCKS I THINK !!! IT`S A FUNNY LITTLE THING
GO GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: MF has the Tubulator back down to $15.

So it's like a downgraded SD1/Tubescreamer/Etc... right...? Do you guys buy it because it has some of that TS character for way cheaper, or as a bass for mods?
Hell if it's easy to mod and has a decent switch and casing to start with (not plastic...) it could be a good base for most OD mods.

Re: MF has the Tubulator back down to $15.

At a price of $10-20,nobody gives you a sturdy metal case and a good switch. The Tubulator has a plastic case, plastic pot shafts and generally super cheap components.I have read that the circuit is very similar to a TS9(it also has the JRC4558D).And the reviews say it sounds as good as many high-priced TS circuit based ODs.You could buy one for $10, and get a new case and switch and it would still be cheaper than other stuff.

Channel 2 Distortion set at 7 and the Arion with Volume all the way up, EQ at 12 oclock, distortion all the way down.

It's not a "downgraded" TS where it counts. Sure the case is crappy and the components are cheap, but the circuit itself is a slice of heaven. It's not a perfect clone of a TS. It's a TS with a little more gain and a little more smoke. It also has a more balanced EQ than the TS (no major mid hump). $10 for this incredibly sweet circuit is like $100 for a new US made Fender strat with cheap tuners.

Re: MF has the Tubulator back down to $15.

Seems cool actually! To me the mid hump is a flaw, I prefer a flatter boost. Well if these sold in Europe, I'd go for it... Though I saw a shop selling it. It was 30 pounds though, so close to about 50 dollars. I don't think I need a better boost than my Route 66 but I understand why people like this one then.

Re: MF has the Tubulator back down to $15.

If I didn't have like 3 pedals that do exactly the same thing as this one, I'd get one. Nice price. I'd be curious to hear it A/B-ed with the FAB OD for ****s and giggles.

Re: MF has the Tubulator back down to $15.

I'm just waiting for everyone to start crying because the switch broke since that will most likely be the first thing to go on them. :D

Sure, the price is nice but, when it comes to this stuff, you get what you pay for no matter how it sounds.

Re: MF has the Tubulator back down to $15.

EricH - I've got two 1980's versions of Arion pedals and they seem to have the same housing and same switch. They are still running strong after all these years and after all that use. I can guarantee that you'll never hear me cry about a broken switch from a $10 pedal. I'll just rehouse it and put in a nice metal temporary stomp made by Carling (I already have this switch as a matter of fact intended for a rehousing job).

Don't take this the wrong way, but you don't know what you're talking about if you don't actually have any experience with this pedal. Negative comments like this WITHOUT actual hands on experience with these items shows a tendancy to espouse an uninformed opinion. If anyone has a problem with the lifespan of the pedal, they are terribly destructive by nature and expect way too much out of a $10 pedal IMHO. The enclosure is sturdy enough for general use (given the two 1980's versions I have). The switch also seems to be more durable than the soundtank TS that I have as the Soundtank is completely wore out and the arion pedals are worn looking but are still running like a top.

Re: MF has the Tubulator back down to $15.

No, I don't have one but I know a few local guys here that got one and within a month of use the switch was busted and the knobs wouldn't stay on. Yes, they gig regularly but they weren't jumping on them like a gorilla on a Samsonite either.....lol. The experience I have with it was comparison between it and the rest of the pedals in the store. Sorry, but I'll go for a Boss or MXR any day.

I build some of my own pedals these days with heavy duty 3PDT switches and I have Boss pedals that have taken massive amounts of abuse over the years that still work.

You're fortunate that those old Arion pedals still work. There's not a lot that still do and of those that still do, a majority of them never saw the stage or left the house.

Just my .02 cents.

I'm also looking at the perspective that not a lot of people know how to fix these things by themselves let alone use a soldering iron so the idea of a rehousing project is not even a thought to many folks. That's a very small percentage of the market.

I'm not a gigging musician, so YMMV. My stuff tends to not get abused unless I mishandle it. Musicians have to put up with more abuse to their gear than others just from drunk patrons jumping up and down on them. I've seen a RP-6 nearly lose it's power supply because a drunk guy was jumping up and down to the beat (he thought he was I guess) and he just about sheared the thing off with his right foot. I had the same pedal back in the day and there's not much way to fix it if you don't know what the polarity was before it was broken. I got lucky and repaired mine. Gigging musicians have to deal with a whole new level of abuse that I don't have to contend with and probably can't comprehend, so maybe I was a little too harsh.

Re: MF has the Tubulator back down to $15.

Bah, it's alright mang, no harm done.

Speaking of the Soundtanks, I was at a gig and was up fairly close to the stage. The guitar player happened to have a couple of them, one was the TS and the other was the Heavy Metal or whatever it was, the distortion one. He was standing up close to the edge of the stage and the bassist came marching to his side of the stage and without looking, stepped on one of them really hard and the switch lever went CRUNCH!!...LOL. No more pedal.

Those old Arion pedals are starting to catch some good money on eBay right now if they're in good shape and everything is working, especially the chorus units. When I was looking for a chorus unit a few years ago there were a few of them up there going for well over $100.

Re: MF has the Tubulator back down to $15.

I've got one of the old japanese Stereo Chorus units (SCH-1) and it's the high dollar one. I also have the japanese SAD-1 stereo analog delay. Some very sweet pedals for sure. If their switches crap out on me, I'll just make an enclosure for them. So far so good though. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Re: MF has the Tubulator back down to $15.

Damn, bro. Those two are the ones catching the highest dollar these days.

Re: MF has the Tubulator back down to $15.

Like a lot of things these days, I suspect the older Arion pedals were made better than the new ones, which would explain the apparent longevity.

I'm wondering about the noise from this pedal - that is when it's off. Anyone have any experience with this?
