Mi Audio lead over an old Rid slowfusion track

How many comeback will I ever make? :laugh2:

Well, the kid is born and my gear is cool (for now :D ) so let's play.

This is my new MI Auidio Crunchbox. No amp! With the Traynor, I was plugging the FX send to my Behringer DI box with analog cab sim, but there is no FX loop on the Blues Jr, so I plugged the pedal right into the DI.

Pretty amazing. I actually get a tone very similar to the YCV50. And this is the Agile stock bridge pickup!

It's a bit long, but I wanted to explore many different sound. There's a bit of onboard delay. It's not perfect but it's hard to be on a long piece like this.

It's the first at the top: Slowfusion

Enjoy! :)

Very, very good! Thanks for the clip..MI pedals become popular these days...that's good!

Re: Mi Audio lead over an old Rid slowfusion track

Nice! That pickup doesn't sound half bad to these ol' ears. Wait, I'm 17.

Nonetheless, nice!

EDIT: And I found the length fine, not too long by any means.

Re: Mi Audio lead over an old Rid slowfusion track

Thanks guys. Yes, the Mi Audio pedals are amazing.

Yes, the Agile pickups are better than most stock pickups I've tried. They are ceramic pikcups.

I thought it was long because I generally post shorter clips, espcially lead clips.

Re: Mi Audio lead over an old Rid slowfusion track

Hey Sly nice job and playing, that sounds surprisingly good considering there was no amp used at all just pedal into DI box. May have to try that with my Palmer PDI-09!

You certainly can. Many people say that the Behringer Ultra-G DI is a cheap version of the Palmer.

HOWY CWAP!

Sounds great bro!

Can't wait to hear this box with the SuperD/PAF :bigthumb: (though you are right, those pickups aren't bad at all)

EDIT: Love your playing too, not just the tone. You've got some cool 80s Gary Moore type phrasing in there

Re: Mi Audio lead over an old Rid slowfusion track

Thanks Jeff. Yeah, can't get away with it, people always mention the 80s when they hear me play. Or write for that matter. Guess it's normal for a guy who was a teenager in the 80s :D

And I'm REALLY looking forward to hear the Super D with this pedal.

Re: Mi Audio lead over an old Rid slowfusion track

Beautiful, Sly. Sounds great. Is the DI box the ULTRA-G? I've heard nothing but great things about those. That really does sound like you're playing through a speaker cab. Nice. :bigthumb:

Re: Mi Audio lead over an old Rid slowfusion track

Yes Erik, it's the Ultra-G... it's unreal. With a tube amp that has an effects loop, you run a cable from the send to the Ultra-G, activate the cab sim and you got instant cab sound. And what I really liked with the Traynor YCV50 is that it had a master volume, so I put the master at 0 and could record silently.

But I can now get almost the same tone with the Crunch Box and the Ultra-G alone. And I'm not kidding anyone. I did this same track with the YCV50 and you can barely tell the difference.

I think I'll buy another Ultra-G and keep it in a safe place in case Behringer stop producing it. At 29.99, it's a steel.

Re: Mi Audio lead over an old Rid slowfusion track

Yeah, I need one of those.

Got a question. My Vox AD50 has the line out and a speaker out. Now, I could just go line out to that Ultra-G and to the console. But, I've read that I could also come from the speaker out to the Ultra-G and then to the mixer. I like that because the speaker out will have the amp's valve reactor power amp. Granted, the line out on this thing doesn't sound bad at all, but it sounds so much better with the power amp involved.

So, my concern is, does the Ultra-G put a dummy load in the amp so it thinks it's hooked up to a cab or will I need to come out of the Ultra-G to a speaker cab in addition to sending the -48db signal to the console?

Re: Mi Audio lead over an old Rid slowfusion track

There's no dummy load. You have to link the Ultra-G to a cabinet using the jack provided. I'm not sure about your speaker out, but if there is no risk of damaging your amp by using the spk out, I don't think you will have to plug the Ultra-G to a real cab. It will work nevertheless. The "direct link to cab" is there only to protect a tube amp if the Ultra-G is placed between the amp and the speaker. Or between a tube head and a cab. As you know, the load is mandatory to avoid frying tube amps. If it's not the case with your AD50, then it'll work without a cab. Unless there's somehting I don't get about your particular connection.

With the Blues Jr, for instance, I can unplug the speaker, plug the amp to the Ultra-G and plug the "direct link to cabinet" jack to the speaker. I tried it but it was very noisy this way, maybe because I was too close to the computer.

Re: Mi Audio lead over an old Rid slowfusion track

Thanks, Sly. The thing is, I don't know how the AD50 will behave without that load. It's not a SS amp but it's not a tube amp either. There's a 12AX7 in the power amp of it and unlike hybrids, this tube actually does something other than light up...lol.

Edit: Did some research. Vox recommends keeping a load, some amp techs say a load isn't necessary. Guh!!! It's better to take the safe road and keep the load on it. If I was to do that, I could use my 4x12 for the load or put a jack on the internal speaker and hook it back to it from the Ultra-G. We'll see. Depends on if I end up using one or not.

Nice! You totally rip on this tune!

You also sound a bit like Rid in this tune :D Very melodic and flowing. Sounds pro.

Good to see you back on the jam bro.

Re: Mi Audio lead over an old Rid slowfusion track

Thanks a lot Bob.

And Stevo, man, this is too much. Thanks! I think Rid opened up some fresh new ideas for me, and he has been influencing my playing (and probably other people's too) in this regard since I'm on the board.

But the comparison stops right there. Rid's a true pro. I'm just a wannabe showing some improvements :D

Re: Mi Audio lead over an old Rid slowfusion track

Yes, throw em in... I love these tracks... even if I can't find something good to do on all of them.

I still have a couple of well worked one I'll post on the board soon.

And thanks man!

Re: Mi Audio lead over an old Rid slowfusion track

Don't sell your own abilities short Sly...you've got some real tasty phrasing going on there, AFAIC :bigthumb:

Re: Mi Audio lead over an old Rid slowfusion track

Selling one's abilities short also applies to Niels...cut it out bro..you're a helluava player..far from a "hack"!!
