MIA Strat Neck compared to Warmoth Std. Thin?

In terms of thickness and shape how does a Warmoth neck with a Standard Thin back shape compare to a brand spankin new MIA Strat?

I have small hands so as a result I always prefer narrower nut widths and neck shapes that are more of a soft V or C shape... not too thick but not wizard-thin either. 1 5/8ths for a nut width os perfect for me so now i just need to know what i can expect from a Warmoth Std Thin neck in terms of neck shape and thickness. The necks on EBMM Silhouettes are PERFECT... i haven't measured but I have a feeling they're thinner than a strat but still thicker than a Wizard... it's been such a long time since I've played one.

So what do y'all think?

The best thing to do is since neck thickness varies on Fenders from guitar to guitar, measure the thickness from the top of the fingerboard to the back of the neck at the first fret then again at the 12th fret and compare against Warmoth's back shapes webpage specs.

I would say that on average, our Standard Thin is slightly thinner than today's American Standard. It must be pretty slight since I have relatively no returns because of it.

the MIA is a "modern C" shape, according to Fender

Warmoth's standard thin is not really a C shape, IMO - it has slightly more shoulder, so I guess it's more of a shallow "U" shape

though I have a couple of the standard thins - they can get a bit thin, depending on your preference

my personal preference now is something like a soft V or C, about .84 to .86 at the first fret, and a radius of 12" or less

you might try looking at Warmoth's neck options for specifics on their necks

One more q though... I know Warmoth provided measurements on their necks... pretty sure i can convert those into Inch-increments using simple algebra but what do i use to measure thicknesses of guitar necks?

Do you have access to any measurement calipurs or know someone with one? It's the best way to take thickness measurements IMO

I wish I had a decent picture of one but they should have them at a hardware store. (Just don't talk to an automotive person or they'll point you to a set of brakes

Oh and a Shoutout to Gregg and the Folkes at Warmoth for doing me up my body blank and wenge neck ... after 2 summers I'm almost finished ... just one more to go and I should be gold

I've got a Wenge Strat neck with an Ebony fretboard and it absolutely rages. What a howling tone that thing has got. Makes you want to keep soloing when the notes have that kind of character. That Wenge is super fast too playing on that raw pourus wood.

I've got a Wenge Strat neck with an Ebony fretboard and it absolutely rages. What a howling tone that thing has got. Makes you want to keep soloing when the notes have that kind of character. That Wenge is super fast too playing on that raw pourus wood.

Not to hijack the thread, but I also have to say how impressed I am with the Warmoth parts I ordered. Alder Strat body, and a goncalo neck with an ebony fretboard and SRV back shape. Everything fit together perfectly, and the goncalo/ebony combination feels nice and smooth. I just need to finish wiring it up, I can't wait to hear how this thing sounds when I'm all done.

First, I'd just like to thank the folks at Warmoth for making such fine bodies and necks. Three of my 5 guitars are Warmoth, and so will my next project, if I can ever get off my butt and order the parts!

As for back shape, I'm not sure how it compares to a Fender, but there is slightly more shoulder than my Kramer Pacer. The Kramer might actually be a soft V (very soft), but I've grown to prefer my Warmoth necks.

Another cool option for Strat necks is a tilt-back headstock. When I built my swamp ash strat, I didn't want to mess with string trees and all of that weird Fender stuff (I've been playing Floyd Rose equipped guitars or Gibsons), so I asked if they could build a neck with a tilted Fender headstock. It works wonderfully!

Goncalo is really gaining in popularity. I haven't played on one yet but I have had repeat buyers ordering more necks of it singing it's tonal praises. You're right, Goncalo sure does feel nice too.

If i can find a pair big enough that should work, you're right I should use those...

So I guess the general consensus is that the Std. Thin necks are just a tad thinner than MIA Strats with a slightly different shape... very cool.

Now I just need to find 1200 bucks so I can build this thing! :32:
