MIA tele refinish project

Re: MIA tele refinish project

status updates. buffing is done so all finish work is complete. i didnt have my camera for this process but its pretty simple. i did everything using

and

ColorTone_Polishing_Compounds_Detail.jpg

ill post some pics once i get the camera up and running again.

as for the wiring...i will say that the p-rails was not intended for this guitar. it was for another tele i have in the works, ive posted it before, the one with the spalted maple top.

anyways, im still not letting on as to what to what the wiring pup situation for this bad boy is going to be. you'll all see it hopefully within a few days if all goes to plan

Re: MIA tele refinish project

So yeah, this thread is now complete. If it is deemed vault worthy then i hope it is a good resource to any1 looking to do a refinish.

Let me just update a few things:

I only sprayed one can of lacquer on this one cause i wanted a really thin finish. One can is not enough, lol. I went through 3 buffing compounds and actually buffed through in one or two places on the edges. So, i would recommend spraying at least two cans of lacquer, 3 if you plan on doing some serious wet sanding.

Apart from that, everything went pretty smooth.

Re: MIA tele refinish project

Nice job. Too bad about the solder blob. Using too much solder to have a blob do that? Next time, put a towel over the body. ;)

Can't wait to get going on the Start project I have to do. It's gonna be some work, but worth it. Esquire project in on hold indefinitely due to lack of funds and other priorities.

Re: MIA tele refinish project

Yeah i wasnt paying attention with the solder. It was right as i finished, i was cleaning and re-tinning the tip and it just spat a blob onto the guitar. Im not too bothered though, makes it look used, lol.

Re: MIA tele refinish project

Yeah, you're over that first ding/scratch fear already....lol.

I use the Radio Shack tinner/cleaner rather than solder to retinning. No splatters and a lot easier.

What pickups are in it?

Re: MIA tele refinish project

Now how did I miss this thread? Great job scottish... I am considering refinishing my V .

lol, this is a pretty old thread now. The guitar has since went through some changes. I stripped it all down again and refinished still in gold, but this time shoreline gold. I wasnt happy with the way it looked where i had buffed through in a few spots. So this time i sprayed more lacquer and it looks a lot better. Its currently awaiting a neck since i sold the one that was on it.
