Mic comparision?

Re: Mic comparision?

I have both the 57 and the E609, after comparison, I prefer the e609, it seems to be a little flatter, and clearer. plus it's super easy to position, stand mount, or, hang over your amp, and you get alot more speaker area that the mic 'see's'
But some folks prefer the mid hump you get the the 57.
If you have the chance, you need to a/b them with your rig.

Re: Mic comparision?

Where does the mid hump occur on the 57? High mids or Low mids? Could you point me to a estimated frequency?

Thanks!

Re: Mic comparision?

The 609 silver is pretty bright. I would pony up for the 906 or an audix i5

Re: Mic comparision?

I got a 57, an e609 silver, and (in transit) an i5. Gonna have some fun with those pretty soon ;).

The immediate difference I see is the voicing switch, but I dunno if they're much different beyond that.

Immediate difference between what? None of those 3 have a voicing switch

Re: Mic comparision?

The 609 is too bright for my tastes and hard to position for a decent tone. Of my two mics, I'm getting a much better tone using my Oktavia Mk319.

Re: Mic comparision?

I have a 57, Audix i5, and the e609. I just did some recording with the e609 and distorted scooped heavy guitars don't seem to the best application for the e609. I would imagine that it would work better on warmer, blusier guitar and warm clean sounding guitars. For most of the heavier guitar applications I prefer the Audix i5. There aren't too many bad mics, its just that some are suited to certain applications better than others.
