Mic question

Is it bad for them to just leave them over a speaker when I'm not using them? ...and jamming loudly.

Does it effectively "wear them out"

Should I be pulling them when they're not being used?

We leave ours out and have never had a problem. I would think that putting them away would keep the dust and elements off of them, but I do not see a recipe for disaster in keeping them connected.

yeah, i think its fine. when we are in the studio, we get everything dialed in and leave it, sometimes for weeks. no harm done

Yeah, studios do that for weeks at a time, sometimes with very expensive microphones.

Specifically in relation to sm-57/58s there are videos of people throwing them around, hammering nails with them etc and they still work.

Naturally doesn't mean all mics are the same... but I don't think you need to worry about the sound waves generated by your gear.

Keep in mind that broadcast mics are left out and used 24/7, and they last for decades.

Dynamic mics are pretty tough and can take a lot of abuse. Condensers tend to be a little more delicate.

I don't think the SPLs from your cabs will hurt them, but if you've got them in a place with a lot of humidity . . . that can be bad for the diaphragm of the mic and cause degradation over time.

Dynamic mics are designed for 500 decibels, so it won't hurt them. Either the volume levels or being left out. Your ears will be damaged long before a dynamic mic will.

Don't store them by sticking them to speaker magnet

Probably wont hurt them
but they may become magnetized
And small shards of metal would stick to them
And taste funny when the singer goes to use them

also if you have a puppy or cat
they may pee on one set on the floor in front of the speaker

They will pee on the corner of the speaker cab as well
