Re: Michael Kelly patriot custom
First impression... Got mine delivered yesterday. Opened the case.. SWEET!
The "black fade" color is more gray than black, but the back is black. Its really quite striking! The flame maple top in not bookmatched at all. So looses points for snob appeal there. Three way switch feels very sturdy and takes a deliberate effort to move it. The Strap buttons are works of art. The are big and modern looking. (I'll still put straplocks on, but the buttons are nice) Also, even the plate around the jack is metal and the wiring inside is some of the most tidy work Ive ever seen.
There are no bleeds or issues with the binding anywhere. The frets are all very uniform in length and crowned nicely. No sharp edges. The ebony board is not extremely black , but darker than rosewood. The Inlays are solid abalone blocks with very complex patterns and colors. (honestly dont know if this is a plus, but looks nice. There is minimal filler around them.
The axe is prob 8-9 lbs and feels extremely solid. From Grover keys to the tone pros bridge and tailpiece. (DiAddario strings)
It traveled 1000 miles to get to me and only 2 strings were ever so slightly flat and intonation spot on. Action nice and low . Neck shape slim and comfy.
Has a bold accoustic tone and notes sustain forever! AMAZING!!!
Since I didnt get in from work last night until 1:30 am, I couldnt plug her up. Tonight I get to give it the plugged test..
These guitars really are impressive. Factor in the fact they are less than $500, they are astounding. Try one if you can and let me know what you think
