At the GIRLSCHOOL!
My baby broke all the rules!!!

I actually saw those guys open up for Lita Ford and Poison back in '88 or '89. I recall lots of hair and at least one Les Paul.. and probably an 80's wank stick of some kind.. I thought the gutarist's name was "Dizzy Dean" something.. or maybe that was the singer... it's was many beers ago.

Sorry for being completely unhelpful. I am just imparting all the Britny Fox info that I know. BTW "Long Way To Love" was a badass tune.

mmm . . . Girlschool

scary thing is, watching that video in my teens (I was 8 when it first came out I think) the dudes were awfully girly-looking . . . kinda freaked me out

sorry, can't help with pup selection . . . just thought it was cool that we're talking about Britny Fox

Re: Michael Kelly Smith sound? (Britny Fox)

This is a topic I can really enjoy as Mike taught me guitar in the mid to late 90's. Great guy and a much better player then Britny Fox would have lead you to believe. When I knew him he was in the middle of having his LP overhauled, but don't know what came of it.

yes im a 19 year old, that is just starting to get into the big hair scene. I love his sound. Fat, chunky, and full! would the JB or DD be good in the bridge of my les paul for his sound? or something else?

Re: Michael Kelly Smith sound? (Britny Fox)

so i listened to the sound clips of the pickups, and i think the JB is exactly what im looking for. I just bought the CC for my kramer baretta RI, and if i dont like it ill take a look at the JB. after all, didnt the JB come stock in all the baretta's back in the day?

Re: Michael Kelly Smith sound? (Britny Fox)

I thought the guitarist was originally in Cinderella, and left for Britney Fox

The guitarist played Charvels, singer played Les Pauls

Re: Michael Kelly Smith sound? (Britny Fox)

I think Britney Spears ripped off the Girlschool video...

Meanwhile Britney Fox sounded like a Cinderella ripoff-

OO OO OOO! I can help with this one!!! Yes!! JBs came in many stock upscale Kramers and Charvels/jacksons back then!

Re: Michael Kelly Smith sound? (Britny Fox)

:arg: stick an a5 in yer DD you got sitting around, that'll turn it into a jb(for the most part), then stick it in yer baretta!or at the very least, stop wondering and do something already bro!

*just a nudge man, you need to do start experimenting rather than constantly contemplate the possibilities;)*

You know, a 500T is great 80's metal pup....not a bad idea.

Re: Michael Kelly Smith sound? (Britny Fox)

When I saw them, they were switching between Pauls and San Dimas Charvels on stage.
I would say JB or stock Gibson.

I would agree with the JB, although I don't remember that Mike was all that picky. When he was teaching me he had this lovely Firebird and hollowbodied Tele that he seemed to favor. I had asked him about Cinderella and he told me he was the one that started the band.

Might want to take a shot at the `59 too.
