Mic'ing my speakers for KILLER tone!!

Phantasmagoria

watch where you point that sabre
Yep.. 2x15" cab ..with dual condenser mics.

Random sloppy widdles & chugs with my YJM strat. Thought I'd give this awesome mic'd setup a go and it waaayyyy exceeded my expectations ;)

Oooopps ...did I say 2x15" ?? ..I meant 2x1.5" :D

...not too shabby for what it is ..heh..heh! :naughty:

Re: Mic'ing my speakers for KILLER tone!!

...sorry about that..thought I'd set it to unlisted :p

It's fine now.

Re: Mic'ing my speakers for KILLER tone!!

...makes you want to get rid of all that fussy analog stuff ...does'nt it? :naughty:

Re: Mic'ing my speakers for KILLER tone!!

If that's a 2x15" cab, that zoom recorder must be the size of a TV and that guitar must be the size of a small aircraft. Did you you mean centimeters? The tone is actually pretty close to your direct sound but with the obvious 'live' sound of being mic'd.

Re: Mic'ing my speakers for KILLER tone!!

:bigthumb: Good tone there.

If you have 2 mics, have one near the center of the cap (to pick up treble) and one near edge of cone (to pick up bass).

Mix to taste.

Re: Mic'ing my speakers for KILLER tone!!

..thanks man :) ......& lol...those are 1-1/2 inch speakers. It'll be a hell of a squeeze getting two mic's up in front of one..:laugh2:

The handheld recorder recorder I used has two onboard (tiny) condenser mics anyway..

Re: Mic'ing my speakers for KILLER tone!!

...also :beerchug: Dankstar ...for some reason the 'Thanks/Like' button is'nt working for me? (...anyone else have that problem?)

Re: Mic'ing my speakers for KILLER tone!!

Well it did ..right from the very word go ...face the bitter truth haha..

Re: Mic'ing my speakers for KILLER tone!!

You'd be surprised how small of a speaker you can get away with in a recording situation. UFO used pignose amps and it's a little known fact that Korn would have combos with 10" speakers mixed in with their recto stacks. It's possible to screw up the capture of a fullstack and have it sound thin or capture a 2" speaker that sounds huge in a mix. I have a challenge for you. Record a song with that setup. Use the Waves MaxBass or newB subharmonic bass generators if need be.
