Mick Mars - Motley Crue tone.

Re: Mick Mars - Motley Crue tone.

This is the best we got: (guitar.com interview)

Mick Mars: I have about eight guitars on tour. Most are Stratocasters which Fender modified. I put different pickups in them. I can't remember the guy's name who makes them, but he lives in Tennessee. Most pickups put out about seven to seven-and-a-half ohms, and mine are putting out 16. They have more windings. So that's one of my secrets. It just pushes the guitar amp and pushes the speakers harder.

Re: Mick Mars - Motley Crue tone.

As others have mentioned, Mick used a Super Distortion on the first two albums, a '59 at some point, and also a JB. I don't really know what he's using now, but his tone on the Crue's most recent tour was awesome. He's even started using a Les Paul here and there like he did in the old days. Hopefully he's feeling a little better, given his condition he seemed to be pretty mobile when I saw them a few months ago.

Yeah I saw the crue play in london and im sure he used a les paul for 2 songs. Not to keen on his tone on the first 2 albums. But feelgood and ggg was awsome.

Re: Mick Mars - Motley Crue tone.

It's great to see players give the guy the props he deserves. Seriously.

Crue was/is special for many reasons, and in many ways EACH of those guys was indispensable, but Mick is the guy writing the rythms, which IMO, *is* the song.

Re: Mick Mars - Motley Crue tone.
