Anyone know what pickups Mick Mars was using in the early days of the Crue? I really like that heavy overdriven tone of the 1st and 2nd Crue albums , I`m pretty sure he was using Marshalls!

Re: Mick Mars

Man...this interests me too. He was definitely using a Les Paul Custom during early Crue while supporting Shout at the Devil and before, but I'm not sure exactly what pickup. It sounds like a Super Distortion because it's so chunky but I think a good amount of that is attributed to the Marshalls he was using too.

I'd love to know the definitive answer though...I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

Re: Mick Mars

Was'nt everyone using a super distortion back in those days?

Re: Mick Mars

I don't know but anything after that Shout album I didn't care for his tone or the band for that matter. :P

I agree , IMO they had there moments on all of their releases after SATD but it was never the same!

Re: Mick Mars

I actually heard somewhere that he used JB's. But JB's and Super Distortion's went hand in hand in the 80's... Hope that helps..

Re: Mick Mars

From what I've read, it was the Super Distortion he was using back in the early days. I believe he started using the JB around the time of the Theater of Pain album.

Jolley mentioned once that Mick Mars use to be on the artist database as having used 59's. But I've read that he used to use J. Rolphs too. And I dig his tone on Dr. Feelgood.

Re: Mick Mars

Amps were def Marshalls. Later he switched to Soldanos. Also, he played BCrich Warlocks alot then too. I saw them on the SATD tour and he played a warlock, LP and Gibby V. Not sure of the pups. Good Thread!
