Mid heavy Overdrive recommendations

Pedals are a lot like the craft beer industry as well in that one company invented a "Budweiser" back in the days of yore but now everyone else is trying revivals, new spins on it. Etc. "Budweiser, but now with lemon, made by craft brewer X who used to work in Budweiser in 1985 and has the secret recipe in his basement!"
Oh, man. You would so hate me in person. I love craft beer. I hate Bud, tho, LOL.

About pedals, I mean... There are like 20 similar pedals that I like better than my actual TS808. But it's hard not to justify having the actual Ibanez since it's the pedal that I measure all others by. And even so, I much prefer the Ibanez TS808 to the Maxon OD808. I've read the Maxon is not the actual 808 design, tho. So who knows.

Looking for suggestions for a OD that pushes mids and hi mids and doesn't cut bass like most tube screamers. I've gone through all my OD's that I own and am ready to find something new. Does Duncan still make the 805? Suggestions for tube screamer clones that don't cut bass please.(other suggestions welcome too)

The Vox Ice9 is a TS clone with bass and treble controls that can actually boost bass and make it thicker.

That was a great pedal that I may try to aquire again some day.

What about a Klon clone like the full size Tumnus, love how my mini tumnus plays with my Jube. The full size has a full 3 band eq vs 2 band.

Yeah, great damn pedal - the only thing about a Klon style to watch foris due to the secondary handling of the highs -they tend to add detail overtop of the pure mids and the sometimes unintended effect of deemphasizing of the mid lows -which may not be preferred in your drive unless you back down the highs/tone knob.

Which is what I do slightly typically.

It's hard to hide in a band mix with a Klon pushed, really puts you out front IME -which can be great or annoying.

youre kidding right? a treble booster? even at the low setting, it cuts a lot of bass. and into the clean channel its probably gonna be harsh as hell. i like a rangemaster into a dirty channel to push things harder and clean up the flubby bass though

Honestly, I'm back in love with my Duncan 805. The EQ is really responsive and usable in the right frequencies. Even ewhen set to sound close in EQ, volume, and gain level, the voicing of the pedal is just really clear, tight, and hi-fi compared to my TS808. I love it.

However... I wonder what other alternatives there are to the 805. I love it, I just wish the output volume wasn't as low. It's not like unusably low, but it is lower than a TS808. It's not easy to mod either since it's SMD.

How is the Wampler Claksdale?

Yes the 805 is what I've decided on. Hopefully I'll be ordering it next week...

I just got a Mosky Silver Horse from Amazon. No separate bass/treble controls but man, does it sound sweet. I like the "voice" switch that apparently switches between the Germanium diodes (up) and LEDs (down). It's very much a Klon clone. Haven't A/B'd it with the PedalMonsters Klon Klone I have here but plan on it.

While I haven't tried it, EH just came out with the Spruce Goose, and it has treble & bass controls.
Those are based of the BB, tho. Those are supposed to have flatter "more transparent" EQ's compared to TS's. I mean, I guess you could lower the bass and treble knobs to get the mid push, but I'm not sure those are baxandall tone controls to be able to do that.

I wouldn’t settle for anything less than an overdrive with at least a 2 band EQ (like a Timmy) so you can add the exact amount of low end needed for whatever amp you’re running.

Once you get used to something more than a single tone knob, it is hard to go back.

Not always. Sometimes simplicity is better. That's 60% of the reason why I reach for my TS or ZWOD more than my 805. I mean, it's cool that you can really dial the 805 in. But sometimes you just wanna plug and go and not overthink it.

Well, once I find the settings (like the first day I got the 805), I found the right settings for me. So I never had to change it. But I couldn't find them without those 3 active EQ knobs.

timmys eq is different than some. bass eq is pre-gain so it rolls off before things distort, then the treble eq is post-gain so tames things after all the distortion. its magical in the right rig
