Middle Pickup Selection???

I have an Ibanez '98 RG470 with original infinity pickups that I would like to replace with Duncan Invaders, however I cannot come to a conclusion on what to put in the middle. Any input would be appreciated. Also does anyone suggest upgrading the tone pots as well? if so suggestions?

Unless there is something wrong with the tone pots, I wouldn't replace them. But as far as the middle pickup...the Invaders are pretty high output, so any normal middle pickup will sound pretty tiny. You can try a Quarter Pound or even a single coil Invader if you want to keep it single coil...or a Hot Rails or Cool Rails if you want it to be a single-sized humbucker.

Quarter Pounders kept up with humbuckers pretty well when I tried them, which made it easier on setup. The matching single coil Invader idea sounds like definitely being worth a try too

Thanks guys! After listening to some sound samples of the Invaders and a couple other sets, I'm not so impressed with them. Now I'm really leaning toward the Nazgul & Sentient Set. Just seems to have a better all around tone but can still hit the heavy bottom chunk. This set (seems to me) to have the versatility of the Hot Rodded Humbucker set but with a little more oomph. Originally considered the hot rodded humbucker set with the custom stack (STK-S6), but would you guys still recommend the Quarter Pound (SSL-4), Hotrail (SHR-1N) or Cool Rail (SCR-1N) with the Nazgul set?

Any could work, but the models you listed are all over the map. What is it that you want out of the middle position, exactly???

Do you want a cleaner sound in the middle? Then the Cool Rails is a good choice. Do you want another hot humbucker, with a mid-heavy voice? Then a Hot Rails. The Sentient/Nazgul set is really modern sounding, so I doubt I'd go with anything that isn't noiseless and has a low output.
