Middle pup output problem!

 YEAH I finally got it finished my first H/S/S.
Thanks for the help all.

After advice from Artietoo, I wired it like this:-
GIZZAWIRE.jpg

Everything is working ........BUT,
The middle pup works, but has a significant volume drop and sounds
distant with no presence.I did unfortunately:smack: ,slightly dent the windings
during installation but I don't think I broke the wire.
I suppose this could be the problem.
Any suggestions?

Re: Middle pup output problem!

Hmmm . . . trying doing this: When you're in the neck/middle position, gently tap on the middle pup with a small screwdriver or such. Note the sound. Now switch to the middle-only position and tap again. Whats the difference, if any, in sound?

Re: Middle pup output problem!

Het Artie,
Thanx for the response.
It's a bit hard to describe, but to my ear
The neck/middle has a little noise.and when lightly tapped,
sounds a bit more hollow/echo-ish and lower in tone, than
with middle only the sound when lightly tapped is flat(no body) though
a little higher in pitch.

Re: Middle pup output problem!

Thats odd. Its Friday night, so I don't want to offer any more "tech" info just now. Let me cogitate on this a bit. Hopefully, others will chime in too.

In the mean time, if its not too much hassle, look over your wiring for simple mistakes. Like a solder blob touching something it shouldn't. That kind of thing.

HANG on that was with a pick.
With a screw driver the middle only definately has the lower pitch .

Re: Middle pup output problem!

Thats what throws me. If it was combined with another pup, it might be a phase problem. So . . . does the neck/middle position sound good? But the middle by itself sounds bad? Is that correct?

YES middle by itself is bad.

Ok . . . let me think about that. That implies something wrong with the switch, or a bad solder connection. If the "notch" position sounds good, then there can't (shouldn't) be anything wrong with the pup.

Stay tuna-ed. ;)

Re: Middle pup output problem!

If it is damaged maybe you could put a meter on it and see if it has changed from its original reading.

Re: Middle pup output problem!

Cogitate No longer!
Problem fixed  if not solved.I was about to pull it apart but noticed
a dodgey lead so changed lead turned it up to a realistic volume &
everything is A O K!. Must of been one of those glitches,Iv'e heard so much about.:smack:
Sorry for waisting your brainspace Artie,
And Thankyou!
I'm stoked, Here's a not so good pic of my new (everything working)axe:-
