I have a TC Electronic G Major and an Eleven Rack that I use for effects with my JVM410H, as well as my other amps. I also have a Behringer FCB 1010 to do all of my programming between them all. However, I am such a MIDIot that I gave up on even trying to do all of that programming. I'm probably making it harder than it really is though.

wouldn't it be considerably cheaper to switch to a multieffects unit? like a boss gt10? then i could have all the effects, and midi capabilities in 1 box

Yes and no.

If you already have all the effects you want in stompbox form, then no, especially if you find a MIDI loop thingie on the used market.

But if you don't have all the effects you want in stompbox form, them yes, a processor is the cheaper route.

It can be as simple or as complicated as you make it.

Personally, I don't mess around with the relay switching stuff built into my 1010. I just use it for MIDI controlling my JVM and VF-1, or at least I used to. Awhile back I got ahold of a Roland MIDI controller that was designed for the VF-1.
