midi recording

Anybody ever used a midi line out for recording a guitar amp? I've got midi lines on my Fender Cyber Twin. I'm wondering if I could run those to my PC w/ M-Audio Midi to USB adapter. It's cheaper than buying a new soundcard which supports s/pdif.

Re: midi recording

a midi output port does not carry audio .. it only contains midi commands/note events/continuous controllers, etc ...

Re: midi recording

do you have a line out form the amp? or an effects 'send' ? .. you could take that to the PC's sound card as a line in ... not quite as cool as s/pdif, but better than nothing

good luck

Re: midi recording

There is 2 stereo XLR line outs. The left 1 is the mono I think. You could run that into your soundcard line in.

Re: midi recording

won't he need a converter from balanced to unbalanced as well as adapter(s) to go from XLR to 1/8" ?

Re: midi recording

The converter shouldn't be too much of a problem. IIRC a balanced XLR-1/8" cable will be ok into a soundcard if you bridge the ring and the sleeve at the plug.

Re: midi recording

I'll have to check the Twin to see if it has XLR outs. I didn't think it did but I'll check. It's the Cyber Twin not the SE. I could see how the line from the effects send sounds. I'm just trying to do the cheapest thing short of running headphone jack line. I may just have to bite the bullet and get a soundcard with S/PDIF.
