MIDI switching a Mesa Road King...

Amp gurus...what have you found to be a good MIDI based switching solution to the Mesa RoadKing/Recto Series amps

I've got a Road King II and a TC G-Major.

The Voodoo Labs Ground Control System with the rack mount switcher looks like a good option.

Axcess Electronics looks like they have some cool stuff also, such as the CFX4

Anyone have some words of wisdom?

You're going to need the CFX-4 - I know a few guys who run the G-Major with an RK and the CFX, and it works beautifully!

I recommend the Behringer FCB1010 for a footcontroller - cheap, durable as hell, lots of options, and easily programmable.

Re: MIDI switching a Mesa Road King...

I was thinking much the same. Its seems that everywhere I read, that seems to be the most common configuration.

Re: MIDI switching a Mesa Road King...

I also know some of those guys with the RK/G-Maj combo use the AmpGizmo with good results, so it works, too.

Re: MIDI switching a Mesa Road King...

as i see it, the difference between the cfx-4 and the ampgizmo is the control of 4 functions vs. the control of 8 ... but you can use two cfx-4s together ... so it becomes a price/convenience/etc trade-off

and the ampgizmo guys have a new rack mounted 8 controller plus 8 loop box .. might be the best option for me if just for the rack mount .. i dont need the looper

Re: MIDI switching a Mesa Road King...

Yup, I think that is it in a nut shell. Amp Gizmo vs. 2 CFX4's. I think the Amp Gizmo may do the trick for me considering that have a cable for the Road King listed.

I see that the Amp Gizmo will mount to a standard 1U rack shelf, its listed in their FAQs.

I wonder which MIDI controllers the Amp Gizmo can phantom power? I guess I will have to e-mail them.

...as always. thanks for the info!

Re: MIDI switching a Mesa Road King...

I actually use a Amp Gizmo to switch channels on my amp heads (2 of them rack mounted, Marshall JCM Slash and FJA modified 5150) and it works wonderfully. I control it with an old ART footcontroller and with the right cable (7pin I believe) and I know it powers that just fine.

I use a CFX4 to midi switch my Mark IV. It works great.

Re: MIDI switching a Mesa Road King...

My unit was modded by Axess to control all the functions of Mark IV that the original footswitch did. Quite a bit more than four functions using a custom cable Axess made for me as well.

I have an Amp Gizmo and Rocktron Midimate on delivery....I think I will finally be able to switch like I used to back in the "Monster Rack" days.
