Mids Anyone?

I'm just wondering how many of us Hard Rock/Metal shredders use mids. I know I couldn't live without them. They clear up all the blurred tones and add a certain crisp bite to every note I pick. Just curious...

Definitely. Everything I play is mid-heavy. The mid dial on my amp stays at 8-10 constantly. Doesnt matter if its blues or really hard rock/metal, mids make the gutiar tone.

oh.. i couldnt live without mids. I use a graphic eq with my preamp since I run rack gear and I keep my mids at 5. The sound is just crispy and I cut through no problem.

Somtimes for fun i create patches on my preamp that are scooped and we start having fun, other wise for live and main patches on my preamp all have mids.

its all about mids baby. if you scoop out all the mids it may sound great by itself (maybe not) but in a band you get sooo lost. if your amp has no mids youre not giving the sound guy enough to work with and you get no thick tone in the house

How do you set your Graphic EQ on your Mesa? How about the Parametric EQ? How much gain do you use? I've got a DC-5 with the same EQ circuit and I've been playing with the settings a lot lately and would like to see what you're doing with yours.

Actually, I have a Single Rectifier, which doesn't have the Graphic EQ. So either I just dial in my mids, or I use in conjunction with my GE-7. I use quite a bit of gain actually, with a dab of overdrive. I'm usually around 2:00 gain-wise. My Graphic EQ looks like a W except with more high-mids than you'd expect.

P.S. - I love Mark Series amps. :9: (If my avatar is why you assumed I had a Mark II)

The avatar was definitely the tip off. ;) What do you use for your overdrive? When you set your GE-7, are your bass and high trebles frequencies flat, or do boost them, cut the mid bass and mid treble, and raise the mid(W). I'll have to try that out....

Mids and Highs hehe ;)
Bass just that i can feel it in my knees a bit when palm mute..
i'm a bit antinewmetal: raised mids, lowered bass, tuned up to F.

Mids are just as important as bass and treble. It's the whole package that defines your sound. I never understood the mid scoop thing, to my ears the more you turn back the mids the thinner the sound gets. On the other hand too much mids annoy the hell out of my ears.

I use the Custom Custom and this pickup is mid heavy pickup this is the pickup i use for band practices. Talk about cutting through the mix. Mids really make everything come out front.

tuned up to f? wuz up with that? that is antinewmetal alright :D

I use mids quite a bit in my mix.

It works out perfect for my tone, especially with major downtuning. It really brings out the fuzzy grind, similar to a chainsaw.

as we got a female singer in the band we tuned to F coz the vocals fits better on the old songs when we played an half step up. We stayd with that..... Never missed the low E since then :D and 2 sec I'm on Drop D# ;)
I think we are not the only band playng in F. I heard for example Placebo play an weird F tuning.
