MightyMite vs. Warmoth necks

Re: MightyMite vs. Warmoth necks

I'm looking at two necks for an upcoming build. It's for a guitar that will be primarily for metal.

The Mighty Mite neck would be a bit of a compromise because of the cheaper plastic nut, and the 9.5" radius (I'd prefer something flatter for metal, but it's not a deal breaker, cuz I'm quite comfortable with 9.5 as well), and the fretboard markers (I want no inlay, but it's not that big a deal).

The Warmoth on the other hand, I get a graphtech nut, 10-16" compound radius, no inlays, but it's also almost $100 more.

For either one, I have a custom headstock shape which I would shape myself, and I would be stripping off the sealer coat and finishing it with danish oil.

So my question is....is the Warmoth really worth the almost 100% price difference compared to the Mighty Mite?

From everything I've read lately in the forums chances are Warmoth is a winner, but still strong possibility of a miss. Not the situation where you can just drive to your local large guitar store and try 50 until you find a neck you really like, or maybe check out friends who have Warmoth necks and try them to see if really there is a 100% difference? It's really personal preference of course, but since you asked count my vote in for Warmoth. Good luck and let us know!

no offense, but you're the last person i'm gonna take any advice from.

also as far as i've seen, none of the stores in the city or the surrounding suburbs have guitar necks for sale that are also in stock (unless they are attached to guitar bodies).

No problem.............save the $100 and don't go Warmoth. I am not the type to say "I told you so" later.....but others are and you might be hard on yourself for going cheap and not following my advice here which really comes from others too. Trust us on this one! Go Warmoth... (but only after you have tried many necks to see the neck that YOU truly PREFER). What others might prefer does not count anywhere as much as what YOU want and prefer. Good luck and keep us in the loop!

What now your trying to troll CTN cause he blasted you before? Dude come on. :lame:

Re: MightyMite vs. Warmoth necks

I also hate that anything besides a 10-16 compound radius is an up charge and I have never gotten a Warmoth 10-16 radius to play up and down the neck w/o buzzing unless I had the action too high and for me that's high!

However, some folks do like them so they can't be that bad...

I can live with their compound radius, but I have to agree. I don't always want a low action though.

If you want a real low action and consistent feel from top to bottom get a USAGC straight radius neck. Tommy does good work. He's great to talk to and bounce off ideas too. 11" straight is what I'd probably ask for. Warmoth comes with correct Fender headstock shapes that are legal, but if your going to shape the headstock yourself then that doesn't matter so much.

I think you missed my point. I'll trust anyone and everyone who's posted in this thread EXCEPT YOU. Also, you apparently can't read because you also missed my post where I essentially said "yeah, thanks guys, I'm gonna go with Warmoth". Also also, you don't seem to understand that I ALREADY KNOW WHAT I WANT AND PREFER.

jeez.

Re: MightyMite vs. Warmoth necks

And order has been placed.

Here's what I'm getting.

CBS Strat (reverse headstock)
Warmoth Pro Conversion (24 3/4" scale)
Maple back
Pau Ferro fretboard
1 5/8" nut width
Standard thin back contour
22 frets, 6105 size
Gotoh/Grover tuner holes
No front inlay, just bare, beautiful wood. White side dots
Graphtech Black Tusq nut

Wait until you see the headstock reshape I've got planned and the body. Major load spillage will be going on.

But the build thread will have to wait for a while... ;)

Re: MightyMite vs. Warmoth necks

how well does warmoth reproduce the american standard neck?
