I used to have a Fender Esprit, precursor to the Robben Ford. I loved almost everything about that guitar except that it was a bit narrow at the neck. I sold it a long time ago and recently decided I wanted one again. I searched around for quite a while and missed a few on Ebay. I saw a Squier Esprit that had Grovers installed along with a Duncan Dimebag br and Gibson 490r (selling those for sure), and since it came with a Reunion Blues Continental...seemed like a tough deal to walk on. So...
Came yesterday, and I have to say it is waaaay beyond what I expected. I will definitely be tossing the PUP's and electronics (although they aren't bad...I just have my own preferences). The neck and body are fantastic and the acoustic tone is really rich. Say what you will...I think that's an important component of overall tone. I think the nut has to go, but that's simple and cheap.
The finishing on this thing is quite exceptional especially considering what I was expecting. Really nicely done honeyburst, subtle, nice grain, nicely bound...very natural looking.
So...I'm pretty happy about this one. I have a pair of Ibanez Super 58's (not the newer Custom) and a pair of older Duncan 59's with the double screw-set. One of those is going in. If I use the 58's I can spilt them.
Biggest challenge...refinishing the headstock cuz that Squier logo is puke!
If you stumble upon one of these and don't mind doing a little work...pretty sweet.
