Mike Soldano is one class act

Re: Mike Soldano is one class act

One of my customers brought in a Soldano Avenger last week that had almost no output. He's only had it about 2 months; the amp is about 4 years old. I quickly figure out that it has a bad output transformer which was aggravated by an intermittent connection in the impedance selector. He asked me how much that will cost and I told him to call the Soldano folks stating that he could get the transformer for the same price I could and that there's no reason to pay my mark up if I have to source it. I sent the amp with him and told him to call me when he has his transformer and impedance switch in hand.

Fast forward to today.

He drops off the amp and the new parts and says "I talked with Mike and explained your diagnosis and he sent me the parts at no cost, I only had to cover shipping". I told him that I kinda expected that to happen but didn't want to make promises for someone else.

Now that's customer service! He didn't have to do that...that's pretty much the coolest thing I've seen a businessman do in a long time.:friday:

Seems to me like there's more than one cool businessman in this story.

Soldano would also not provide any schematics.

That's not unusual at all; most high end manufacturers don't release their schematics. I can't get Bogner schematics either. Boogie releases their schematics but not their layouts...which, unless you've been in a lot of them and know your way around, the schematic really doesn't do a lot of good without a layout. I completely understand where they are coming from and can't blame them for doing what they do to protect their circuit.

Be careful how you throw that phrase around!

Yeah I understand that. I'm not sour at Soldano or anything. Just disappointed I guess. It's a great, great amplifier. It was just really hard to diagnose and fix that's all. Really surprised with Mercury too. It is an 11 year old amp though. So things will happen eventually. A bonus is that the amp will be in tip top shape because it was thoroughly examined and tended to.
