MIM EVH Wolfgang Special

So I just played a white MIM Wolfgang Special at Guitar Center..

My thoughts- it is much more playable, comfortable, and we'll set up than the MIJ version that everyone claims is better with the stainless frets.. Except that it had a plain maple rather than Birdseye maple neck, you could've fooled me that this wasn't an American one.

I've always felt the body shape was ugly, but it balances extremely well. If I didn't have so many guitars I'd get one- matter of fact I made trade in a few of my dust collectors for one

Kind of hard to judge the quality of any EVH since the neck is unfinished. CNC machines work the same across the globe and the boarder. Fender uses Poly on everything for decades, so its process has been well defined. I'd suspect half the "cost" of the EVH guitars is just to line EVH's pockets. Most Mexican stratocasters have more finishing into them and cost 1/2 has much.

If you ever played one in person, you'd see and feel that there's plenty of finishing that goes beyond the CNC machine. As far as the cost, you're paying for the upcharge of a Floyd (at least $100), a compound radius fingerboard (tougher to fret), a slight arch top (more finish sanding), a graphite reinforced neck (aftermarket manufacturers charge $100 for graphite reinforcement), stock USA made pickups that don't need to be changed out (factor in maybe $120).

Both mexican Charvels and MIM EVH Wolfgangs go for $899 street, and all that I've played have been better setup and have better fretwork than any MIM Strat.

You can get that from Warmoth for less.

I almost bought one of these but I bought an Ibanez Prestige instead.
$1k for a guitar with plenty of questionable reviews on it's craftsmanship especially the MIM ones with no case.
I felt like you were paying for a name, I spent $200 more and got a Prestige that plays like butter and all kinds of cool stuff with it
Dimarzo pickups factory, tools and a nice hard case.Ibanez.jpg
and it sounds awesome thru my EVH 5150iii amp.
I'm not trying to dog the Wolfgang, I really wanted to buy it and love it but quite frankly there are way better guitars in the $1k-$1500 price point.

I have built 2 Warmoths. Have you ever tried to price out the parts? It's closer to 1200, plus hours of your time putting it together and setting it up. It comes out to be a better guitar, but it is much more expensive.

I have an EVH Striped that I paid $899 for. Then I made the same guitar out of Warmoth parts, with a hollow Black Korina body, using all the best parts. It sounds much better than the EVH, but took me 6 weeks to finish it, plus around $1200.

Well, if you don't get any finishes it is much cheaper BUT you either have to do it yourself or pay to have someone else do it. Cheaper for the person who can do it all by him/herself.
