Has anyone tried out this guitar? If so, please tell me what you think of it. Thanks.

Re: MIM Robert Cray Stratocaster

its cool but i kinda remember them being a little pricey. basically a hardtail strat with a nice neck and slightly better pups. if you can get a good deal on it then its a cool guitar to have

Re: MIM Robert Cray Stratocaster

I think there are much better Strats out there. It's basically what Jeremy said: your everyday normal Strat, but with a hardstail bridge, little neck, and slightly better than MIM pups.

Nothing great. I'd much rather pick up a Jimmy Vaughan, Highway 1, or a Classic Player's 50s or 60s

Re: MIM Robert Cray Stratocaster

yes but the hardtail is a different beast than those, unless they make a hardtail classic player

Re: MIM Robert Cray Stratocaster

I really liked one that I played in a store, although I'm not really into hardtails, they just sound different to me. It played very well and had a good 60's strat sound.

But i personally like the classic players strats more. I like the 70's the most as it offers the C shape neck. The 50's strats are really cool too, but I don't like the V shape neck.

Re: MIM Robert Cray Stratocaster

Great guitars, crappy colours IMO but the guitars are killer...maybe a little pricey for a MIM Guitar but the quality is also a little high for a MIM guitar!

Re: MIM Robert Cray Stratocaster

Here are the specs:
The Fender Artist Series Robert Cray Stratocaster Electric Guitar gives you a lot of guitar for the money. Custom Shop pickups special wound to Cray's specs crank out hard-edged solos and gritty rhythm while a hardtail bridge allows bold multistring bends with solid intonation. Light polyurethane finish on the alder body ages gracefully, lets the wood "breathe," and helps get the price so low that now you don't have to suffer if you want to play the blues. C-shaped maple neck with 9-1/2"-radius rosewood fretboard and Cray's signature on the headstock. Fender includes a deluxe Fender gig bag with your Robert Cray Stratocaster.

It does have a c-shaped neck. I am concerned if the radius is the same as my 96th anniversary Jimmy Vaughn endorsed (not signature) Tex max Strat.

I read rave reviews about the pups. They are exactly the same as the MIA Robert Cray Strat.

I know, but the 3 tone sunburst is my favorite. Inca Silver...Violet...pew! :34:

If I had to choose between silver and Violet, I guess I'd go with silver.

Robert has all the colors in his arsenal!

Re: MIM Robert Cray Stratocaster

i'd love one in 50's 2tone if they made it.... i have a thing for 50's style hardtails...

Re: MIM Robert Cray Stratocaster

I have had GAS for this axe for about 3 years now. After seeing Robert in concert just intensified it. Here I have 11 axes and hardly have played them as of late. I now am so rusty, I am at a wanker level. :smack:

I'd rather have the hardtail too. I take the trem arm off my other Strat. It just throws the axe outta tune and IMO lessens the sustain a tad.

Didn't Scott_F start a thread on wanking a few days ago?:)

Re: MIM Robert Cray Stratocaster

I wanted one since the late 90's in inca silver. Ive seen the price get higher and higher though :( $400 in 2000 and now its nearly $700. I really dont use a strat trem enough to justify paying for another trem equip'd strat. I dig the neck specs and the silver color and mint guard.

and those necks have some beef to them too.

That is what I hear about the neck. It is chunky.

Re: MIM Robert Cray Stratocaster

Great guitar and a very nice neck! Almost bought one a couple of years ago but went with a Highway 1 instead.

Re: MIM Robert Cray Stratocaster

From my strat experience the hardtail bridges on MIMs are pretty good. I love mine!
