MIM strat: humbucker vs. trembucker

I want to buy new humbucker for my MIM standard strat in bridge position. The only thing is... Should I get humbucker or trembucer ('59)? I think the spacing is a little more on the narrow side on MIM standards.

Re: MIM strat: humbucker vs. trembucker

yup, i usually get trembuckers but a normal spaced bucker will work fine

Re: MIM strat: humbucker vs. trembucker

Measure the distance from low E to high E strings at the bridge saddles. If it measures 52 or 53 mm, get a Trembucker. If it's less than 51 mm, get a regular one.

Re: MIM strat: humbucker vs. trembucker

I don't think trem spacing is as crucial as many seem to feel it is. With a Floyd Rose, a trembucker might be a bit better. Maybe. For a standard trem I don't think a millimeter or two off axis makes a huge amount of difference. I have a nice Fender Showmaster with a factory Pearly Gates Plus that's regular spaced, so it seems Fender agrees. Works fine, sounds great.

If you don't look at the pickup, it's very unlikely you would know the difference.

Trembucker, if you are OCD about things lining up. I like the way it looks better, but if you have a deal on a regular one, that should work just fine.

Re: MIM strat: humbucker vs. trembucker

Just another question; I see TBs have legs with 3 holes (looks like fender humbucker). Will they fit AM dlx pickguard?

Re: MIM strat: humbucker vs. trembucker

"Think" so,just use the middle baseplate holes...

Hopefully someone can confirm.

I just use the middle ones. They work fine.

I thought the MIM had the vintage spacing which was not as wide as the MIA so I owuld think a SH would be just fine...but I basically always get TBs for my Strats

Re: MIM strat: humbucker vs. trembucker

Trembuckers line up with the strings better. Even the stock MIM single coils are, IIRC, 2-1/16" trem-spaced (in all positions, though the neck pickups line up with the strings quite poorly because of this). The MIM and MIA bridges (except reissue models) have 2-1/16" string spacing, which is narrower than the "vintage" 2-7/32" spacing. You find the old 2-7/32" spacing on MIM and MIA reissue models (called "Classic" on the MIMs), and on some signature models that are based on old-model guitars, e.g. the SRV model.

Bottom line: There is no Fender Strat on which, in the bridge position, a standard humbucker will line up with the strings better than a Trembucker.
