MIM Surf Green Strat

Currently negotiating a deal on this guitar. Owner states its a 2000 model.
Waiting for a closer look but it looks in good shape.
It will be a great platform for some planned build I have. (Tortoise shell pickguard, creme railed humbuckers)

These are apparently Classic reissues that were a step up from the Standard series at the time. Somewhat of a reveered sleeper. (Not sure if its a 50s or 60s.)

I've researched my pricing, so I think I'm alright there...but I have never played a V-contour neck, never owned vintage tuners either.

Anyone know of this series or have opinions?
Thanks!

I could be wrong but I believe only the 50's model with the one piece maple neck has a V shaped neck. That one is a 60's model.

Hey, it's super easy to swap necks on a Strat so... worst case scenario sell the V neck if it has one and you can't get used to it and buy a neck with the profile you want. It's just a MIM, so no need to worry about keeping it all original or anything like that.

Love surf green. Don't own a damn thing that color though….

The photo is the best quality matching I could find. It has a tinted head stock, and rosewood board, but can't tell if the pickgaurd is I ply or 3.

This is the pic in the ad.
The quality is terrible and it looks Daphne blue due to bad lighting. (Which I'd also be fine with).
But I'll see it tomorrow and get to really tell then.

If anyone can do any better Internet detective work then let me know.

Looking to have it end up like this. (with creme Dimarzio rail pups and minus the Floyd)

Re: MIM Surf Green Strat

As far as I know:
Rosewood means it's a 60's classic player
Surf green only came on 50's classic player
Sonic blue came on 60's classic player

Given your second picture, could it be a 60's in Sonic blue?

Update.

Inspected the guitar just now and although it was nice and had a nice neck, I found a significant crack under the neckplate and could tell the plate had been removed and then overtightened.

Oh well, either I hunt for another, buy new for more money, or funnel the cash into my next firearm purchase.

Lol, did that used to be a 500? It looks like about $1000 worth of aftermarket parts on a $250 long-gun? & I thought my 10/22 was ridiculous!!!

Re: MIM Surf Green Strat

That's a bummer but good thing you noticed and didn't buy it first! You'll find the right one eventually.

Ha ha! No UTAS-15! Bullpup 15 round 12g

I looked at the guitar outside in the daylight so I could see everything. I recommend doing that with used guitar purchases.
