Mini-board update / NPD!!!

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
So I have tweeked my Mini-board project. I'm really loving this thing. It it ultra portable, gives me all the tones I really need. At practice, I run into whatever amp is available in the studio and don't have to goof with anything other than "Basic Clean Sound". If I have an emergency live, I could in a pinch run this thing straight into the board!

I am SOOOOO into these little Moor Pedals. Sometimes a little tough to dial in with the little knobs, but for what they are, they are awesome.

Anyway - I added the Mooer Solo to the mix. It's Mooer's version of a Suhr Riot. I just love this thing. I have a Joyo US Dream on my main board. Just a great sound for 80's metal/hard rock stylings. I really like the Black Secret as well, but it has a better solo sound, or is better for goosing a Marshall's dirt channel than working as the distortion sound. A little tubby/fuzzy on the bottom end. That said - in 18v mode, the Black Secret is vicious! Kind of like a cross between the Rat 2 and a Proco Solo.

So basically, in regular pedal terms what you see is:

Suhr Riot (with natural, tight, and classic modes)
Rat 2 (with Turbo mode!)
MXR Micro Amp (with bonus gain/bass/treble adjusts)
Boss CE-2
Boss DD-7 (mostly used on Analog, but has two other modes!)

Definitely gonna get a couple more; Pitchbox, Mod Factory, maybe an Ultra Drive or an Orange Phaser

That's a real nice lil board :)

Re: Mini-board update / NPD!!!

I was thinking about adding a Suhr Riot clone to my collection.

I looked into a real Riot, but the difference in sound vs difference in price seems disproportionate. Yes, the Suhr will probably be built more sturdy and last longer; but for the number of Joyo or Mooer clones you can buy with the money, you have a backup or 3 if it fails. And when the jacks or switch or pots go bad, replace them with higher end parts.

Re: Mini-board update / NPD!!!

I'm pretty sure the total "tone richness" is noticeable in person. But like you said - it's 90% + of the tone, at 25% of the price. Let's be real - the audience doesn't care. And at that $, I don't either.

The 1/4 to 1/4 adapters your using look awesome, no wire mess , no jumpers just perfected adapters, I believe all pedal companies or wire companies should make these. I have a few Planert waves and Live wire adapters.

For that matter, apparently the Donner Morpher is a clone of the Mooer Solo and can be had for even less than the Mooer. I do hear the difference with the Suhr Riot even with crappy built in speakers in my iPad, but consider how close these clones get and the law of diminishing returns applies.

At the end of the day, I'd rather have the Riot, but reality is, I'm not earning my living with my guitar and like you said; most people will not hear your tone and point out its a Suhr Riot or a Riot clone. Only us gear junkies would ever notice, and even then, I bet in a live setting most of us would probably not be able to tell.

Well, it's kinda easy with same brand, same enclosure, and brand connectors!

Re: Mini-board update / NPD!!!

Nice, neat board. Mine looks almost identical 'cept it's almost all MXR at the moment!

Re: Mini-board update / NPD!!!

Minis are sweeping the industry.

Re: Mini-board update / NPD!!!

They've seen there is a market for it. A lot of people want tiny pedals with the quality expected from the big brands and Boutique builders.

Mooer and Hotone and a handful of other Chinese clone builders filled the void; and some are quite good. Take Eno and Xvive for example.

Re: Mini-board update / NPD!!!

I'm coming real close to adding a Pitchbox to my main board. Also, I have used the Pureboost live. I prefer bigger for serious rocking though.
