Minor Blues backing for you guys :)

Re: Minor Blues backing for you guys :)

My major problem is however, that any file I had prior to the realplayer install does appear in supported filetypes in Cubase.

The file extension on this file is still .mp3, but it doesn't appear in supported filetypes, I have tried switching the view thing to *all files and selecting it, but it says not supported.

Re: Minor Blues backing for you guys :)

Hmm, beats me man, that's an oddball there. Maybe try switching the file association over to Windows Media Player or something and see if they work under that? If so, then switch them BACK to Winamp and try it again...

Re: Minor Blues backing for you guys :)

reinstall cubase and set the associations to mp3. If not, just right click and select the program you want to open the file with. If none of this works, redownload and try again

Re: Minor Blues backing for you guys :)

Hey nuntius; If you double-click an mp3 file, and it opens in Winamp, then "file associations" isn't the problem. Your mp3 files have there icon set by a registry entry thats pointing to a Real Player file thats still on your computer. The icon is embedded in that file.

You can either use a registry editor, and search for "Real", or use a registry cleaner and eliminate any references to Real Player. The whole process can be a pain in the butt. :yell:

But there's not much other way around it.

Downloading your take now man, you should check out mine while I wait ;). I know about as much theory as will fit in my pinky (although it is quite long haha), but this WAS a blast to play over. I had the usual screw ups and brain farts, and I tried to get a little fast for my britches here and there but I like it overall.

This is the Wolfgang (bridge pickup) -> Route 66 pedal -> PC. I added a touch of reverb and delay, and tweaked the EQ (a slight boost in the mids to help it cut) via Cool Edit Pro.

Re: Minor Blues backing for you guys :)

Holy hell man, I love the tone. That Splawn absolutely WAILS. The playing is killer as well, I like your aggressive style and you have a great vibrato. My only dislike is that it ended too soon ;). Great take man.

Re: Minor Blues backing for you guys :)

Thanks man, those are the 2 best compliments I could ever get vibrato+aggressive.
Yours is cool too, you have a much more appropriate tone for the track than mine for sure.

I also used my Wolfgang with the Jb and 59', I switched back and forth between pickups a bunch of times, which what i always do, weird I guess.

I used Wollfgang >> Boss SD-1 >> Splawn >> Marshall 4-12 >> SM-57 >>Tascam US-428 into Cubase SX. I added a little large room reverb and didn't touch the EQ. I also didn't kick the SD-1 on till after the break.

I would have used the whole track but I cheesed it when it went back to C,, LMAO. BAdly, i just said screw it and cut it in half.

Re: Minor Blues backing for you guys :)

Artie, dude, that was SMOOTH!

Scott, your takes were pretty freakin' scary as well! Yowza, that's HOT!

Re: Minor Blues backing for you guys :)

Thanks DC, until I snag a mic and a mixer that's the only tone I have for recording right now (although I do like it so I have no complaints, except there are no tubes in the picture right now).

I like the way the Duncans sound in your Wolfie, very ballsy. Your recording setup also comes through very well, I'll have to check into that mixer when I start shopping.

I fell into the wrong position for a few notes when it hit the second Cmin section as well, but I decided just to keep movin' to the right spot and call it good since it was so far in haha.

Re: Minor Blues backing for you guys :)

Hey, Craig, got any shredding tips for an aspiring wanker? :)

Re: Minor Blues backing for you guys :)

Well Biu, I gotta tell ya man, my chops are so crap right now its sickening (compared to before). I'm just starting to practice again. Its my New Years Resolution to get my chops back up. Which is why I've been coming here, for inspiration and to get my interest in guitar playing back up. Not to be confused with gigging which I do constantly, I mean PLAYING by myself working on guiar stuff.

I've played so many gigs in the past 12 years my shred chops have gone completely to hell, but other parts of playing have benefited I guess. You can hear me struggling through the fast licks if you listen again.

when I was about 18 I got the Paul Gilbert Video and that pretty much covers everything shred really. When I was 21-24 I could nail that shlt good, but somewhere along the line I got lazy stopped practicing and let it go. I'm on a mission to get those chops back and retain the feel and vibrato stuff i've gained over the years. Wish me luck.

As for you,, hit that metonome everyday and the shred chops will come my friend. 3 note-per string scales and alternate picking.

dude, I didn't own a mic until last year,,LOL. when I was your age I had my 89' PRS, a 5150 head and a 4-12 and spent all my money on beer. I had no gear until recently. I was never interested in recording or anything, all i did was play out all the time.
I'm just learning the Tascam and Cubase, but I did try the direct box (Behringer w/cab simulator) and it just wasn't cuttin' it for me.

I like that Route 66 pedal. I might have to snag one of those.

Re: Minor Blues backing for you guys :)

Well, my band is somewhat disbanded (no pun intended) for the time being. We haven't had a gig in a couple months, and all the rhythm player and drummer want to do is get drunk off their rocker. I don't mind coppin' a buzz now and then but every day is a bit overkill ;). So, for now my personal projects, woodshedding, and "e-jamming" are my only real outlets :).

I recommend the pedal, very sweet.
