Mission Amps is back

Well, it was very tough moving, :banghead: after being in the same building for over 20 years, but we tore it all down, threw away stuff that was too old to remember where it came from and moved to our new location...

The new building is a about 340 sq feet smaller then the old one so I got rid of one of the tech benches, (have only two, fully equiped and live working benches now), moved and stored all of my +80 piece tube tester collection, my old ham transceivers and vintage Hallicrafters vacuum tube radios.... and this hurt, ...the rest of my wood working tools.:crying:
We're running bit slow now but I'm thinking we should be back to 100% by the end of the month.

Sounds great Bruce. When I first read that, I thought you moved into a 340 sq.ft. building! My bedroom is bigger than that.

Thanks to all... and those the emailed me personally.

Lew moved our furniture business out of Boulder, Colorado to an explodong mountain community a couple months ago and I think he has been pretty busy with that.
Early fall and through mid winter can be fairly strong so I suspect he has his hands full with his move, remodeling, promotion and developing some sales.

Good to hear it Bruce!

I didn't know you were into ham or tube radios!

Do you do repairs on radios too? I picked up a Zenith box style radio for my birthday. The on/off/volume knob is pretty noisy and I've put cleaner in the pot but to no effect.

Been hamming a long time... KB0TJ, Randy here with me is N0ELY.
built my first all tube radio when I was about 12-13 years old when we still lived in Michigan.
I use to be a bench tech in a commercial two way radio shop that still did the old GE, RCA Motorola and various other tube transceivers and the like.
I did lots of tube radio and guitar amp repairs (in the old days) from my home shop/radio shack.
I haven't done many radios since Lew talked me into also building guitar amps back in about 1989-1990.

Re: Ham Radio - My oldest daugther (age 12) just got into a 4-week Ham Radio mini-course at school. If they pass the Tech license exam, they get an automatic A. Right at the start of class, the instructor had everyone in the class sign a model release, since friends of his often stop by the class to talk about ham radio. They sometimes take pictures which are then used in yearbooks, to promote the class, etc. Among the people who have been known to stop by: Joe Walsh.

Re: Hallicrafters - My first guitar amp (circa 1973) was a Hallicrafters shortwave radio (just like the one in the picture below) salvaged from the town dump. We added a 1/4" input jack and bolted in a 6" TV speaker (also from the dump) underneath the vent holes in the top. Viola'! instant guitar amp. Shocked the hell out of me every time I touched the guitar and mike at the same time. For some reason, I didn't see that as a serious flaw in those days. Jeff Seal has one in his museum case at the shop.

Ha ha... very good.
I probably still have about 10 or 12 Hallicrafters, S 38 series, Gen coverage receivers like yours.
I used to buy them for next to nothing at Ham swap meets, gut the crappy ones and put a Champ, Princeton or Deluxe OT and PT in it, stick a mid 50s chrome kitchen drawer handle on the top and convert them into weird "retro" looking harp amp head, with it's built in monitor speaker, but of course a jack to run a 1x12 or 2x10 bottom.
No reason a guy couldn't do the same thing and make it a 15-20 watt guitar amp though.
Really raises the eyebrows when you walk in with that as a sleeper!

Hey wish her good luck with the tech class... I use to help out with teaching the Novice, General and Advanced Ham electronic and code classes for the Denver Radio Club here in town.
Lots of fun and a chance for some good learning skills regardless of what she comes out with.

Rhapsody sailing out of Galveston, to Key West, Grand Cayman, Cozemel, then back to Texas. Best bang for the buck on a cruise ship for me since I can drive to the dock and get to skip all the airline fees.

Best news is that after Christmas, the Rhapsody is going away (the missus and i've sailed her twice). They're going to bring in a bigger ship to call Galveston home. I love cruise ships. Best vacation I can think of.

I had the best two years of my life on THAT ship !!!!!!!

I also met my current girlfriend (Canadian) on that ship - feels like yesterday !

And the passengers are the best i have had in seven years in the cruising-buisness !!!
Needless to say, i LOVE GALVESTON !!!

Now, if you sailed on the Rhapsody in either '03 or '04, you probably would have bumped into me, without even knowing it !

I was the ass. photomanager on that ship for almost 18 months !

I loved to stand outside in the evening (w. sail away), as we sailed passed all those huge oil rigs - man i miss Texas ! ( . . . and Mississippi)
Thanx to the Rhapsody, i attended the '03, Mardi Grass - boobs EVERY WHERE ! (great video footage !!!)

. . . ah, one day, i'll be back !

. . . don't s'pouse you will know, but are there any guitar stores in Galveston ?
Never could find any . . .
Wnated to buy a head (amp) at the time, because the bloody things are sooooo expensive over here, (ie. $1100.00 for a Peavey Classic 30 - i kid you not!)

And it is easier to transport a head (through several airports), after a contract than a whole combo !
But then again, i dropped that idea too, as we run on 220, & NOT 110 !!!
