Mixing my next single in analogue...

Re: Mixing my next single in analogue...

Oh man... it started sounding amazing at the 1 minute mark. I think it's literally just the synths filling out sonic space, but the second part of the song sounded a lot less raw and I really started to latch on as a listener. This is an exciting track! I like the guitar tone a lot too.

Re: Mixing my next single in analogue...

It sounds bigger/louder and cleaner! Good work.
Thanks. I thought the rhythm guitars sound wider after EQ, which is odd. My guess is it has something to do with harmonic distortions introduced by the Pultec. They are EQ'd inversevely to each other as well, so it could also be phasing at the corner frequencies as well. May also just be that the frequencies help the guitars get out of each other's way more and it's just a psychoacoustic effect. *shrug* Dunno! :)

The bigness comes from very subtle rides on the 2 bus for the choruses and other parts. Got that trick from Sylvia Massey. :) Just a small ride on the chorus can really open up the mix and give the chorus an emotional impact.

The cleanness comes from riding tracks all the way down when there is no signal present. Adds a subtle but noticeable increase in headroom.

Cool. Good tips!
