Mixing Seymour Duncan and Fender pickups

Re: Mixing Seymour Duncan and Fender pickups

Take apart an old radio or something. Just practice soldering random wire with a ten dollar iron for a start. I've been soldering since I was eight.

Taking control over the setup, soldering, and modifying of your guitar is a wonderful skill to have. This type of thing is exactly why I got into it many years ago.

Re: Mixing Seymour Duncan and Fender pickups

I got the pickups swapped today for free, and while he was working on it, the pickup switch went bad, so he replaced that. Everything done today was free. Anyways, the pickups work beautifully, and they work beautifully together. There is a bit more hum in positions 2 and 4, but it immediately goes away just by touching any part of the front of the guitar, so it is hum canceling. Positions 2 and 4 are awesome. I do recommend this setup. Not bad at all. Sounds awesome! I'm very happy with this setup.

Re: Mixing Seymour Duncan and Fender pickups

if touching part of the guitar makes the hum go away then it sounds like a slight grounding issue

Re: Mixing Seymour Duncan and Fender pickups

How should I approach this?

Never mind. I'm loving the sound of my guitar. If there is a slight grounding issue, I can deal with it. It really isn't bad at all. It plays wonderfully, sounds wonderful, and I am very glad that I decided to replace the pickups in the way that I did. I don't think I ever need to replace the middle pickup.

Re: Mixing Seymour Duncan and Fender pickups

if you touch the bridge and the hum goes away id check the ground wire from the bridge and make sure the hot is to the tip of the jack and grounds are to the sleeve of the jack.

its easy enough to check if you have a multimeter without taking anything apart. if you dont have a meter and are fine with how it is then dont worry about it.

Re: Mixing Seymour Duncan and Fender pickups

So that hum that I had in positions 2 and 4 is gone. My pickups must have needed a bit of time to settle.

Re: Mixing Seymour Duncan and Fender pickups

Glad everything worked out and you like the pickups.

In all likelihood, one of the connections is intermittent.
