MM Albert Lee pickup

So I picked up a used Music Man Albert Lee SSS this past summer. I'm not much of a single-coil guy usually so I threw in a SD Hot Rails for Strat in the bridge. Played it a few months and didn't like it at all. Had a bassy grainy sound and way overpowered the middle and neck single-coils. So I have reinstalled the stock SD single coil, but I'm looking for something else. I want a bridge pickup to complement the SD APS-1's that are in the neck/middle, but something that has some more UMPH compared to the stock bridge pickup.

Or perhaps I need a new set of 3 pickups. LIke the Everything set or maybe even 3 EMG SA's.

What do you want the guitar to do? To sound like? Which genres? What kind of amp?

a twangbanger is a great match to the aps1 in the neck and middle. little more output and a fatter sound but it still retains the vintage single coil vibe

Well frankly you are the second person to recommend the TwangBanger. Maybe I should look into it. I'm not opposed though to changing all 3 pickups if I have to. Seems as if this guitar is not near as loud as all my other guitars. Most of which have JB's in the bridge.

Re: MM Albert Lee pickup

its the next step up from the aps1, sorta similar tone but a little hotter so it balances better in the bridge. the ssl5 is a cool pup and might be a good match to the aps1 although i havent tried it. the output would be just above the twangbanger there but not sure how the a5/a2 magnets would play together.

if that isnt enough then you could look at a lil 59 or cool rails if you want a humbucker tone. the hot rails is kinda going as far as you can away from the aps1 in a single coil size so im not surprised you found it too drastic a difference.

More I look at it I'm thinking I'll go with the Everything Axe setup. Now to tell the old lady......
