Moar heavies

Something I did today here at home. The vocals didn't turn out how I liked... I don't really have a proper setup like I do in the studio. So I just used a 58 in the living room and didn't give them much attention. Improvised the solo and was happy with the first take.

Puncheh!

Holy goddamn that was awesome!

Seriously diggin' that rhythm tone. What the hell kind of effect is it? Crazy cool solo too. Wow.

Re: Moar heavies

I'm using the Dual Rec (orange channel set to modern and spongy variac) through a Marshall 2x12. I'm getting that sound by running a very light fuzz in front! That makes some of the strange chords I use sound even stranger. Regular old tight metal tone is dime a dozen so I'm looking for the next heaviest thing. I've also been experimenting with bit-crushers to get a digitized squeal during palm mutes (that will be a clip for another time though). I used a lot of mics, listen closely for the room sound blended in.

The solo is the same setup but EQ'd with less lows, more high mids and with lots of chorus and a bit of reverb.

Re: Moar heavies

I dig it, but the guitar and bass almost sound like one of those midi backing tracks or something. They sound kind of like they were done with a keyboard. Interesting.

Really? I was going for "produced" but not completely inhuman. I'll admit that some of the bass parts are copy pasted out of laziness and if there was the slightest mistake I punched in until it was perfect. (Not really standard practice for me but I was kind of practicing for if I have really fussy customers who aren't perfect musicians, which sadly is nearly all of them).

But just for fun try putting a slightly dirty fuzz in front of a very dirty amp :)
interesting! bit crusher digital soundingz... great singing tone, not that pitchy!
Ironically, I think it was one of my weakest performances.
