Modded TS

Well I've decided I'm gonna try a TS of some sort as a booster for my leads and to use as kinda a 3rd ch on my orange when I need to up the gain. I've doing the whole guitar volume thing, and I like how I can get some decent enought cleaner sounds, but I find it kinda cumbersome to have to turn the knob back and forth all the time. Hitting a button with my foot is so much easier for me to pull off.

On to biz, I'm probly just gonna buy a modded TS on the bay, there's plenty of em and some sellers who specialize in selling modded pedals. What I wanna know is if I should get a ts7 or ts9 or even a rs808 RI. It will be a modded pedal probly either way, so does it matter? If it does, I have no prob spending a cpl xt bucks on a good one. I know keeley has some killer pedals, but $200 for a pedal (before shipping) is a bit ridiculous if you ask me, I can get basically the same thing for way less on the bay.

One last thing, I know I'm beating a dead horse with this thread, but I want you guys' honest opinions and what your experience has been in this matter.

Re: Modded TS

I've owned a good number of TS'.

The two I've held onto are my Spina-modded TS9DX and my Keeley-modded TS9.

Hands down the Keeley is the TS sound from front to back. Shy of someone dropping a vintage one in my lap the Keeley's a decided pedal in my lineup.

The TS9DX was unusable until John got it. It doesn't nail the sound as much as the Keeley-modded, but there's enough fun sounds in there to make it its own beast, and a fun one that can cover alot of ground.

Re: Modded TS

So, have you ever owned a TS7 modded to ts808 spec? I ask cuz those are a good deal cheaper albeit uglier and look less durable.

Re: Modded TS

i just got mine back from john today.
believe what you hear.

Re: Modded TS

I actually have my eye on a few keeley modded TS808 RI's at good prices. What should I look for to make sure they're actually Keeley's and not just reg TS? Keeleys are pretty much regarded as the ultimate TS around here right?

Re: Modded TS

If it were me, and I've actually thought about doing this anyway, get a used TS-9 and mod it to TS-808 specs (change 2 parts). Then, play with it like that for a little and if necessary, get it modded from there.

My decision of looking for a TS-9 got swayed last night when I did a couple additional mods to my SD-1 to give it a TS-808 flavor. It's not exactly, but it has the TS sound going on. There's just way too many part changes between a SD-1 and 808 to make it exact.

Re: Modded TS

Been toying around with the maxon od808, another option to throw your way. If I remember correctly something was changed in the input circuit to clean up some noise, otherwise very close to 808 specs.

I really appreciate the honest posting about Robert's mods and all,but at the same time, what is he charging to mod a guy's TS these days? ;o)

When you say Keeley's pedal "nails the sound".....Constructively tell me what is different so I can incorperate what you hear into those mods...

Good post....Please clue me in,cause I want people to be satisfied 100%.....

Ummmmmm....Nope! ;o)

Then what would you recommend? I assume it's one of your modded ones right?

Honestly, I've heard nothing but good things about Keeley's TS, other than the price tag. He sells them for about 2bills or wants 60bux to mod one if I remember correctly. That's why I'm buying a slightly used one on the bay ;)

Re: Modded TS

Joe, I appreciate the input. I wasn't planning on paying 200 for one, that is ridiculous. I have found some on the bay for less than half.

edit: Well I bought the keeley mod TS9 today on the bay. It should be here in a cpl days. I'll let you guys know what I think.
On the bright side, if I don't like it, I can always resell it for minimal loss considering what I paid.
